It's taking over

I found out about a monthly card show in town just coming up on three years now, and already I'm wondering how soon it will be before there's nothing there for me anymore.   I went this past weekend fully aware that I'd see more tables dedicated to TCG stuff. When I walked in I thought I would try to count how many tables were selling Pokemon/Magic/Yu Gi Oh and how many were selling cards of actual humans. But after spotting the three tables to my immediate right all selling it and knowing the table to my immediate left always sold it, I gave up on that and tried to focus on someone, anyone selling something I could use.   It's pretty clear that kind of dealer is taking over this show. Without doing the count, I'd guess that at least half of the tables were TCG this time. Then, out of the other half that's sports cards, cross off the dealers focusing only on graded stock and also the dealer or two selling nothing but boxes they got through a month's worth ...

Stacking up and stocking up

The last three weeks I've averaged three posts a week, which is an all-time production low on Night Owl Cards.   I'm OK with it, which is not something I could say for the majority of the time I've been running this blog. But it's not like I have a choice. So I've accepted it, with the hope that I'll return to at least 5 posts a week, but not expecting that to happen.   Some of the old "requirements" of this blog remain in place though, clinging to the "old ways." One of those is "blog about every card package you have received from others." But when you cut down on blogging time, the cards pile up.   Another requirement is "keep the card room relatively orderly." My card room isn't immaculate, I don't think anybody's should be. But I've got the neatness gene and I can't handle cards piling on top of cards, potentially falling on the floor, so the cat will think it's a new play thing and bop them...

Cards I know and like, and cards I don't know and ... still like

I've been sifting through some great cards sent to me lately and actually holding off on showing some of them. It's not that I'm hesitant to thank my benefactors, certainly not! But I try to coordinate my blog posts around here, sometimes obsessively so. But sometimes you just have to let go and show off! So I'm showing off. Recently -- well, not so recently now -- a terrific collector, Jonathan, sent me another batch of cool cards. Like usual, some of the cards were directly off my want list, others weren't on a want list at all but in line with what I collect, and others were simply surprises that, honestly, I didn't know existed. Jonathan is a set collector, like me, and he asked if I would advertise a handful of his set wants in hopes that someone out there would have the one card that he needed to complete some of them. I've agreed, because -- wow, the cards he sends. I even scouted out the images of the cards he needs. Here they are: ...
