Sharp vintage never fails

All right, I'm still not quite out of the woods as far as time constraints.   Some of that is my own doing, you know, blog post ideas that take a bunch of research and scans. But that gives you something to look forward to, right?   But for now it's another quick post of cards I obtained -- but they're vintage cards and super sharp, too! That's got to be appealing to someone.   All three of the cards I acquired from Daniel on Twitter. They are all high-ish numbered cards in the 1967 set and that makes me super-happy. He mentioned that the Steve Blass card is suitable for grading. I don't care about that at all, I just want the nifty card.   I just found out the other day that this card was taken on Opening Day in 1967. You can see the celebratory bunting behind Blass' left shoulder, if you aren't distracted by the person in the stands with the checkered shirt.   This card looked very familiar to me, in fact I feared for a moment that I already owned it. A meandering look at Game 7 and baseball cards

Tonight is Game 7 of the World Series, which means no one will be reading this. But I don't care. I've done a bunch of half-assed research and I must spill it somewhere. There have been 36 Game 7s in World Series history. Tonight's game between the Cubs and Indians is the 37th. I know fans are bracing themselves for an epic battle, the so-called "instant classic," but Game 7s produce dramatic games about as often as regular-season games. And that's why we constantly repeat the Game 7s that are memorable, because what we actually wished for came true. Other times, it's the Tigers beating the Cubs 9-3 in 1945 (I know you don't remember that, but it happened). Fans looking for a close Game 7 may or may not get their wish. There has been just one more extra-inning Game 7 (1924, 1991, 1997) than Game 7s that ended 11-0 (1934, 1985). There have been 12 one-run Game 7s and seven decided by more than four runs. Surprisingly, there have been nine shuto...

Match the song title: Pyromania

As I mentioned a couple of posts ago, I attended my 30-year high school reunion last week. I didn't communicate with three-fourths of my class when I was in high school, but it was a pretty mind-blowing time last weekend. In fact, if you're approaching that same reunion milestone and have never gone to a previous reunion (like me), I recommend going. At the very least, it will be amusing. The most gratifying thing about that weekend for me may have been having the opportunity to return to a place where everyone remembered the early 1980s. The entire room was filled with people who knew the area where I grew up, knew how we got from there to here, and know how perplexing it is sometimes to live in our current virtual world of gadgetry. Everything that existed then is viewed differently by the people who came after. Our ways then don't make sense to them now. It felt good to be among those who could still make sense of those times. As one tiny example, take the Def L...
