C.A.: 1994 Score Steve Finley

(Greetings. I am currently sitting through about the 59th dreary, dark day of this fall/winter. It's been even more pronounced lately. When you get no snow for weeks, there's nothing on the ground to brighten up the gray sky. And the worst part is it's impossible to take card pictures for this blog. Filching scans it is! Time for Cardboard Appreciation. This is the 317th in a series):   I play this little game with myself, which sometimes I also air on Twitter, where I ask myself the following question:   "Dodger card?"   This 1994 Score card was the latest example. It was one of the cards that Bob sent in that box I blogged about yesterday . He threw in a couple other cards that I'm thinking were just to mess with my head.   Now, the perfectly logical and serious-minded collector, with RULES and GUIDELINES would be adamant that this is not a Dodger card. The guy is listed with the Astros, he played with the Astros at that time, he is wearing an Astros uniform...

More draft folder follies

See Steve. See Steve run. GO, STEVE, GO!!!!!! See Steve get tagged out. (*Sigh*) OK, See Steve try again. RUN, STEVE, RUN!!!!!!! Gaaaaaah!!!!! Whaaaaa? ... AGAIN? I hear Steve owed Topps some money in 1991. But all debts were paid with Fleer Ultra.

My favorite Giants fan is back

Wow, where was everyone last night? Not a lot of posting. Even less commenting. Either it's the Christmas busy season, or people are so freaked out that Blogger has removed the "switch back to the old Blogger" link that they're terrified to post. Those are the only two answers I have. Don't tell me everyone was watching the Rams and the Seahawks. That's impossible. But, I thought I'd take this opportunity while nobody is reading to confess that I have a favorite Giants fan. His name is Adam. He sends me all kinds of cool cards. And they make me forget that I want the Giants to die in a swirling cesspool of hot garbage. He found a bunch of shiny and numbered Dodgers this time around, so at least the cards can brighten things up around here (I had a yelling match on the phone at work last night. Fun!). I'll start with a couple of parallels from the Fleer Brilliants set of a decade-plus ago. Both Park and Karros are competing in the sky, pla...

Cardboard appreciation: 2005 Fleer Ultra Steve Finley

(According to the always reliable Holiday Insights site, today is Scrabble day. As a word guy, I can appreciate a good game of Scrabble, even though I've played it about once in the last 20 years. Anyway, it's time for Cardboard Appreciation. This is the 60th in a series. And I'll try to use a "Q" and an "X" in the post): This card is here in honor of the Dodgers' home opener, which is today against the Diamondbacks. Before the game, center fielder Matt Kemp will receive his Gold Glove Award. It will be presented to him by the Dodgers' last Gold Glove center fielder, Steve Finley. After that, the Dodgers will try to correct some of the problems that they encountered during their first road trip of the season -- errors (including one by Gold Glover Kemp), walks, bullpen implosion, and an inability to hit with runners in scoring position. But if things don't work out today, at least you'll be able to gaze upon this exceptional Flee...
