The golden giveaway still sucks

I've come to terms with the fact that I'm never going to redeem a card from the Topps Golden Giveaway site. If I'm going to get one of those fancy things, I'll have to order it up on some other site. I haven't invested a lot of effort for me to realize this. About a dozen codes, that's all. And a bunch of stupid coins in return. In fact, I had forgotten all about the site until one of those redemption cards fell out of a Series 2 pack. That would make two Topps Giveaway sites in a row that had slipped my memory. Remember the Diamond Giveaway? Is that thing still going? Well, a post at Play At The Plate reminded me that, yes, that thing is still going (don't ask me if all its parts are working). And that reminded me that, golly, I still have cards waiting for me on that thing. And, gee golly, I still have cards that I WANT waiting for me on that thing. I decided to order a few of them. Mamma mia! No more coins!

Before I started blogging, most of my computer free time was spent playing Super Mario. I wasn't obsessed with it or even good at it. It was just a pleasant diversion that I picked up because my daughter was into the games. Soon that diversion became less pleasant because I found out that my daughter was vastly more in tune with the game than I was and that she could figure out all the game's secrets before I even knew that there WERE secrets. I did know that if you want to get anywhere in any Super Mario game, you usually have to accumulate coins. They're everywhere, and it starts to get discombobulating and frustrating trying to find them. I think my daughter liked to watch me play the game just so she could laugh at me searching for coins. It's been a long time since I've played Super Mario. Baseball cards, despite all of its parallels and short-prints, is a lot less frustrating of a hobby for me than video games.
