Having a wonderful time, wish you were here

I just got back from attending a card show with Angus of Dawg Day Cards . In less than an hour, I'll be watching the Dodgers attempt to sweep the Braves in the NLDS. Needless to say, things are going particularly well at this point in time. Who knows what will happen in the game? Who knows what will happen tomorrow? Who knows what will pull me away from this blog with virtually no warning? But for right now, I'm having a wonderful time. To underline that point, I'm showing three postcards that I received from Angus this afternoon. (They are just part of the goodies he brought for me). The first card is a terrific item of the famed Dodger Wally Moon. And yes, that is Moon's inscription in the top corner that says, "To Emerson, Kindest personal regards, Wally Moon." Who needs Archives to produce a Wally Moon autographed card when he's signed a postcard already!!! Had I known. The next postcard is another noted mid-1960s Dodgers baseball player. ...

They can put a man on the moon, but they can't put the right face on a baseball card

The player in the photo on this card is not Jay Johnstone, no matter what Fleer says. I think that has been established in several blog posts. It's also been established with reasonable certainty who it actually is. But I'm going to go through it again -- with pictures -- for those who missed it. Or for those who just like pictures. First off, here's a card of Jay Johnstone. How Fleer could confuse someone who looked like "Moon Man" up top with someone who looked like Johnstone is absolutely baffling. There are also cards of "Moon Man" featuring sticker autographs that have Johnstone's signature, right there affixed to the card! That is just embarrassing for everyone who has ever made a card, owned a card, laid eyes on a card, played baseball, signed an autograph or went to the moon. Anyway ... When the "Moon Man" card -- which was provided to me by Cardboard Catastrophes -- first hit the blogs, the guesses were all over th...

Cards and cards from Cards on Cards

What? I enjoy alliteration. Even if it is merely using the same word over and over. I just completed a team trade -- Cardinals for Dodgers -- with madding of Cards on Cards and A Pack a Day . Team trades are the best, because each of you get nothing but cards you want. Even if you get dupes, you don't mind so much (or at least I don't). I live on one side of the country and madding the other, so these Cardinals and Dodgers each took a transcontinental journey. The Cardinals and Dodgers have been fairly regular trade partners over the years. Joe Ferguson for Reggie Smith (advantage Dodgers). Pedro Guerrero for John Tudor (advantage Cardinals). So it makes sense that their fans should swap cards. Among the cards I received on Thursday were five different Brad Pennys and four different Jeff Kents. Maybe madding's a closet Dodger fan? Or more probably he just has loads of cards. Here's a look at the L.A. highlights, obtained all the way from Oregon Ducks country: Hey! Let...
