Elusive scribbles

I received a Paul Lo Duca autograph of the unlicensed variety from Too Many Verlanders just the other day. I really appreciated Dennis reaching out to me because right away I thought "I somehow don't have a Lo Duca Dodgers autograph in my collection." I've been thinking about how close I am to 200 different Dodgers in autograph card form for a little bit now and Lo Duca would get me one Dodger closer! So when I received the card, I went right to the trusty Dodgers autographs binder and counted up what I had just to be sure ... and that's when I came across another Lo Duca auto. Damn, that's right. The mini Lo Duca auto! Mini Lo Duca has a page all to himself so I missed it the first time. So even with the Prizm Lo Duca I am still at 190 different Dodgers for whom I have autos. I thought this might be a good opportunity to look at which notable Dodgers have avoided getting into my autograph collection. I don't really seek out autograph cards, except fo...

Direct from the Twitterverse

As you might know, I used to be on Twitter. But like salmon swimming upstream, I got out of there while everyone else in the world was getting in. I'm still active on Twitter on a professional level. Dispensing information, receiving information. It's invaluable. It works for me on that level. But not on the personal level. I guess I prefer my facts in short snippets, while I want my opinions in long, meandering blog posts. When I left Twitter, I left a number of card collectors who also have blogs but prefer Twitter. They're still there now, and most don't update their blogs very much anymore. That's OK, I guess, but I miss them. Trading with those folks has dwindled down to zero. Another unfortunate bi-product of being a blog-only collector (I don't do the forums either). But just the other day, a card package arrived from one of the more active collector twitterers that I know. Greg/@grogg sent me some cards that he claimed were long overdue. I d...

The greatest card package ever: letters A-L

Even after I divulged all of the "hits" in the previous GCPE post, I hope you'll stay with me for the remaining two posts on the cards that Joe L. sent. I mean, you're not just about the hits, right? Base cards rule, right ? Don't be a card snob. Like I said before, I received so many cards that I have to break the package up into three posts. This is Part 1 of the base cards. Players A through L. Players M through Z will show up tomorrow. Almost all of these cards come from the period in which I did not collect -- the mid 1990s to the early 2000s. So there were a bunch of cards I had never seen before. I'm not featuring all of the players, just most of them. I'm going to list the number of cards that I received of that player -- I mean all the ones that I didn't have previously. Then, I'll show my favorite card of that player that I received. But I don't know why I just mentioned all that. It's not like anyone is keeping score. Or maybe...

Best of the aughts (as in "aughta been better")

I'm stealing another blogger's idea again. And it's another one of those all-time best team posts. Paul over at Phungo just listed his Phillies team of the decade. The team of the Aughts (because no one knows what to call this decade). If you ask me, a Phillies fan has an easy time of it. The Phillies did just win a World Series. That team had a few players that stood out. It's not so easy with the Dodgers. This was a decade of transition for L.A. It seems like half the decade the Dodgers had no idea what they were doing. All you have to do is look at who they put out on the field in 2005. Hee Seop Choi . Mike Edwards. Jason Phillips. Ricky Ledee . I mean these were the starters . So, coming up with the best at each position was tricky. But I tried to stick to the format that Phungo created. The only thing I didn't do was name an MVP for the decade. I think a team needs to win a World Series for me to be naming MVPs . I guess if the Dodgers win the Series ne...
