It's all Yasiel Puig's fault

I've been operating in a haze the last three days. Work is hectic and regular life is busy, too. The city's working on the sidewalks a block away and guess what time they like to make their ungodly noise? Yup, right around 8 a.m. When night owl is cozy in his nest. Bastards. Multiply that by a certain Cuban phenom blowing up in Dodgerdom. Normally, I'm used to following the Dodgers from three time zones away. My job helps make that easy. But with Yasiel Puig doing what he's been doing, not only do I have to follow the games, but I have to re-follow them on the highlights, and then I have to calm myself down from the buzz that only a two home run game in a player's second career game can produce. Next thing I know, someone is holding a jackhammer up to my ear saying, "wakey, wakey!" I'm so tired. I was tempted not to post today, but I didn't want to do that. I'm already withholding packages from people until I get the budget under...

Getting off my ass

Up until the last day or so, trades had dried right up for me. I've had no time to strike up any deals, and with Listia and a card show and some online arranging going full force, cards were occupying my time in other ways. But the time has come for me to get off my ass and actually be a fully functioning member of the bloggery again. Now that I've scrounged up some money for mailing supplies, a few select people will be getting some cards next week. And then a few more after that. Before you know it, it will be 2009 again and we'll all be clawing our eyes out because of all the trade posts. One person who hasn't stopped sending out cards recently is Spiegel . I got a very cool assortment of cards from him a couple weeks ago and am just now getting finding time to discuss them. So let's see if I still know how this "show your latest cards" thing works. I think you turn it on ... Like this ... Is it working? Ah, here we go ... I shall st...

Back in action

I was out of town for a few days last week on vacation. When I got back, I was pretty busy, but that's never stopped me from posting before. This time, it stopped me. I just didn't feel like tending to the blog, or the hobby really. There are trade packages collecting dust, cards people sent me collecting dust, binders collecting dust ... and some half-hearted posts to tie it all together. But don't worry. I'm not going to start drawing ponies. I just wanted to see what it was like to ignore collecting for a few days. It felt good. A relief. My brain kept trying to turn post ideas over and and over in its head until it realized it didn't have to do that. "Phew," it said. We've decided -- the brain and I -- that we're going to do it again. Soon. But I'll always be back. Even if it's just a trade post. (*Ahem*). These are cards from Spiegel at Nomo's Sushi Platter . I can always count on him for a hard-target search of the wa...

Evidence that our children are drinking too much caffeine

I received a couple of cards from a couple of Dodger fans recently that are really making me question the mental sharpness of our youth. Sure, these cards are from over 20 years ago, but are we really seeing more intelligent kids coming out of our classrooms today? (I have no facts to back up this sweeping implication). Look at this card. Someone is seriously deficient in the paper-cutting arts. This is some sort of National Highway Traffic Safety card. It's slightly smaller than your average card, and that's before someone took a screwdriver, or whatever inadequate tool  it was, to cut the card out. I'll give the youngster passing grades for the top edge and even the left edge (which looks suspiciously O-Pee-Chee-ish). But things went a little haywire on the right side and the bottom. It looks like he/she even bent the card in the cutting process. This card was sent to me by Spiegel . I hope he didn't pay anything for it. Here is a card sent to me by Greg ...
