Chill out, four eyes

A few months ago, I announced that I was going to feature "The Best Glasses On Baseball Cards. Period" countdown in April. I figured that would give me enough time to search out the cards that I needed for an appropriately classic countdown. Unfortunately, a few things happened. First, life threw me a few curves. I've been dealing with them ever since. Also, I wasn't able to track down any glasses cards at the last card show because other objectives interfered. So, here I am, three days away from the end of April, and this countdown ain't happening this month. But it WILL happen. I just need some more time to round up a few more cards. Besides, a new contender heard there was a contest and wanted to enter so badly that it found its way to my home. Carl Crawford Cards realized that the countdown includes only cards that are in my possession. So, he put a 1933 Goudey card into my possession. Here it is: Holy octagon. Is there any reas...

Now that I am coherent ...

I hope you didn't believe anything I said in the last post. That was the exhaustion talking. Of course I am going to post the cards that people were kind enough to send me! I just needed to knock myself out for a few hours first. I've got one more night of work to go, and then I am off for a couple of days. So in a day or so, expect to see all kinds of terrific or lame stuff. Depending on your point of view. But first, a proper dedication to most of the pre -Christmas card packages I received. (Others will be arriving on this blog at some point soon). I will separate the packages by blogger in the order in which they arrived. How's that for organization? See what I can do when I get some sleep? All right. On with the card festivities: 1. Blogger: madding 2. Blog: Cards on Cards 3. Reason for sending cards: He put out a call for people to take his minor league cards. I took some, he sent some, and he sent some Dodgers, too! This 2009 U&H card of Xavier Paul is key...

Fishing for a Kershaw auto

I received notice a day or so ago that someone will be sending me a 2009 Clayton Kershaw autographed card. That is seriously nice of Chris. And I'll be sure to reserve the next A&G auto I get for him. But that doesn't mean I'm done with Kershaw autos. I may not need the A&G Kershaw signature anymore, but I know there are a few other Clayton autos out there, since bloggers keep pulling them everywhere. Fortunately, I just won a contest at The Mojo Hand last week. And my winnings are in my possession. So, now I can use a couple of the cards as bait for Kershaws, or something else that agrees with my collection. Because my collection is very particular. Finicky, even. The first card I'm offering up for trade is a deadly serious one. In exchange for it, I would really like a Kershaw autographed card, preferably from this year. But we can work something out. This might be the thickest card I have ever owned. You could use it for a doorstop, if you were, you ...

When 'very good' is very good

Recently, I received some 1976 Topps cards from Carl Crawford Cards , a blog that has been known to feature a '76 card or two. I am trying to finish off the set, as it's one of the main sets from my childhood. But finishing off the set also means upgrading the set, because I absolutely kicked that set's ass when I was a kid. It just so happens that almost all of the cards that I received were upgrade cards. Crawford Cards had no way of knowing this as I simply list my wants in almost all cases. I don't differentiate between cards that I need and cards that I simply need to upgrade. So it was kind of neat that I could upgrade several out of one package. Mr. Crawford (actually I believe his name is Paul) said he wasn't too hung up on condition, so the cards weren't perfect. And the cards I received were probably in "very good" shape according to the condition guide put out by a certain (*ahem*) publication. "Very good" is not as good as...
