Paddling as fast as I can

Who was the first person to come up with "The days are just packed" saying? Was that from the "Calvin and Hobbes" comic strip compilation? Or did Mr. Watterson take it from somewhere else? At any rate, it accurately sums up things around here. The busy season at work and at home is winding down, so now I'm trying to catch up. I have lots of card packages to blog about and lots of trades to straighten out. One request: if you don't have a want list on your blog yet, please, please, think about adding one. My brain is getting older by the minute and without a want list to check, I lose track of exactly what everyone needs. That's especially true with certain teams, like the Mets and Red Sox and Orioles, in which I'm dealing with multiple fans. (Meanwhile, I'm trying to add to my want list bit by bit to hopefully give all you friendly folks a few more options). I'll be sending out a couple packages later today, a few more later this week ...

Variation madness, the sequel

These are the Topps throwback Dodgers that I received the other day from Dan of Grand Cards . He recently held a 3-throwback blaster break, and I landed seven Dodgers cards (I'm not showing the duplicate Matt Kemp card). Through the kindness of bloggers and the purchase of one throwback blaster, I should have all of the Dodgers from Series 1 by the end of the week, except for two. I'm still looking for Greg Maddux and Mark Sweeney. That's pretty good, considering the throwback cards haven't been out for more than a couple of weeks. In fact, with all the variations out these days, I'm doing quite well collecting one particular Dodger -- Matt Kemp. So far, I have: 1. REGULAR. The plain, old Topps 2009 Series I card. At one point I thought this was the only Topps Kemp card of the year. And I was pretty happy about that. I was such a fool. 2. GOLD. I initially forgot about the gold card, which I now have. I think Topps has run the gold cards into the ground. It's...

Awesome night card, pt. 26

Topps Heritage wasn't the only thing I found at Target on Wednesday. When I say the card aisle was restocked, it was RESTOCKED. Aside from Heritage blasters and loose packs, there were blasters of UD Spectrum, blasters of regular old UD, regular old UD packs, Topps Attax, Topps regular blasters, Topps throwback blasters, Topps cereal boxes, Topps rack packs and Topps loose packs. And all of the 2008 stuff was still there. Honestly it was like Topps received my complaint letter, even though I actually just stashed it in a desk drawer and never sent it. ... OK, I never even wrote a complaint letter. I just bitch on this blog and hope someone important will wander over and read it. Staring at the selection, I debated what I would get to go with my Heritage blaster. I finally decided that the vibrant, mildly nauseating colors in Spectrum might make me car sick. Not that I open packs while I'm driving. That would be CRAZY. But I picked up a blaster of Topps throwbacks instead, to...
