These cards won't post themselves

I've had some nerve this week. While I've been off gallivanting at card shows and running contests, cards sent to me by well-meaning people are being neglected. They can't post those cards to this blog themselves, and the cards certainly can't do it. So it's time I take some responsibility. This I will handle in a single post. Most of the cards sent recently have been 2 to 4 cards at a time, which seems to be the pattern lately. I know that's all I've had time for -- just about everything I sent out this past week went out in a PWE. I'll start with cards sent by Adam at Cardboard Clubhouse . He's in full-on Halloween mode already with a contest and everything. I'm not much of a Halloween guy, but we do both like cards so let's talk about that! I'll start with this 1995 Pinnacle Raul Mondesi item. You know it, you love it, you see Tim Wallach taking his hacks. But I'd like to address the back. This must be the most...

Signed, sealed, delivered 2

You ever get paranoid about using the same blog title more than once? I do. I had to look up whether I had used this one before and it turns out I did. So I stuck a "2" on the end of it, like they do with movie sequels, which are automatically easier movies to make because no one had to come up with a title. But this title works because it refers to two envelopes that I received in the mail recently that both featured autographed cards. "Wow," I thought, "Is this what we're doing with card packages now? Because if we are, I'm in trouble." Here is a card certifiably autographed by former Dodger set-up man extraordinaire, that is if he wasn't injured all the time. This came from madding at Cards On Cards . I always remember Hong-Chih Kuo for dominating the Mets while I was out at some restaurant. I really wanted to see Kuo pulverize them on the TV that was tantalizingly close to me, but the people around the table kept demanding f...

Elbow misery loves company

The recent news that Chad Billingsley is finished for the season because of sore elbow is not going to help the Dodgers' playoff chances any. It's very disappointing because I've always been a fan of Billingsley, through all of his infuriating struggles and his endless habit of playing head games with himself. The fact that he was struck down in the middle of one of the greatest success streaks of his career -- possibly the "ah ha!" moment of his career -- is even more heartbreaking. But I'm not ready to write him off, even though it's possible that he may need Tommy John surgery. If you're someone from my generation, TJ surgery is the "Uh Oh" announcement of baseball medical procedures. The sign that a player may never be right again. This goes back to the fact that I remember the news of John recuperating from the surgery and all of the "experts" who said how dicey it was. Even though John recovered in spectacular fashion t...

Trade. Cards. Deal.

I've finally reached the portion of my trading backlog where I address the massive collection of goodies sent by Smed during his spring cleaning fiesta. I've paid the postage, and started looking for some cards to send in return, but unfortunately, there's no time for anything else. Normally, with a collection of cards like this, I'd do a What's the Best Card in the Package post and force you to view the whole thing until your eyes bled and you were humming '70s commercials for the next two months. I can't do that this week. So, instead, I'm merely splitting the cards into two different posts. The first post is my 12 favorite Dodgers cards from the package. The second post -- who knows when you'll see that. There won't be anything too creative with either of these posts. It's a trade. Here are some cards. Deal with it. Oh, and thanks, Smed. Commence countdown: 12. 2010 Bowman Draft Leon Landry gold parallel: "Neon Leon...
