For the sake of organization: The '75 mini page quest

I have been communicating with Ultra Pro's representative on Twitter about manufacturing a style of page that fits 1975 Topps-style minis. No promises have been made, but Ultra Pro said that they would study the issue. I got the impression that they weren't exactly aware that there was a need for pages this size, or that there were even cards this size. That's not a reflection on the company, that's a reflection on how old I am. Even a card set as iconic as 1975 Topps minis is "so old" that we can apparently just ignore them because "nobody collects that stuff anymore." But, take it from me, trying to organize my '75 minis is a real problem because I can't find the proper pages. I recently received a whole bunch of '75 minis from Andy at High Heat Stats . I love '75 mini packages more than anything that is not alive. What a great bunch of cards. They make me giddy like nothing else. But the whole page-sorting problem puts...

Uh ...

I've run into a brick wall with about five different post ideas today, so you're getting a rambling, housekeeping type post while I regroup. For starters, is anyone really happy with this A&G Troy Tulowitzki card? The fog is eating his cap, consuming his glove and has already devoured his left foot. This is not a baseball card, it's a horror movie scene. And while I can't get off of Allen & Ginter, someone explain this to me: I have three of this card. That seems odd because the Matt Garza card is No. 347, which means it's a short-print. Yet, I have more of it than any other card in the set. I know there's a mathematical reason for this -- something to do with probability and other stuff that made me realize how much I detested math when I was in high school -- but I refuse to think about such things anymore. I'm just puzzled by why I still need a regular ol' base card of, say, I don't know, Kate Upton, but the card gods ar...

Why I'll never be mistaken for a player collector

OK, I'm finally posting the rest of the cards that Andy of High Heat Stats gathered up for me from that wonderful vacation card shop of his. I don't have anything profound or quirky to say about these cards, which are all of the 1990s variety. I thought about it for awhile, but '90s cards just don't inspire me as cards do from the '70s and '80s. The '90s seemed to be all about accumulating and endless variety and accumulating and player collecting and accumulating and rookies. Not much time for staring at weird mustaches and wacky uniforms and introspection. But I did notice one thing, and it has to do with the whole accumulating thing. Andy sent me several Hideo Nomo cards. Here are a couple more of them: There were other ones, but, really, I spoil you with scans. So you'll have to make do with that. The Nomos that he sent put me at 344 total Hideo Nomo cards. It's the most cards that I have of any one player. It's really not a l...
