M is for ........... more cards!

You fellow '70s kids know already that M is for Martha , but fortunately there are collectors in our corner of the ridiculous internet that know that M is also for More Cards.   Johnny has been sending sequels to his recent card distributions and I received my second share about a week ago. He's still ridding himself of players who start with M that no longer live up to his standards. My last package was filled with Max Muncys.   This package was filled with ... no, not Willie Mays ...   Dustin May.   Lots of needed parallel action there. Now that May is with his third team in three years, it's safe to say he's not going to be the future star promised by his prospect cards. I could've told Johnny that quite awhile ago (and gotten my cards earlier!). May just couldn't put it all together -- or stay away from killer salads.           Mmmmmmmmm. Those hit the spot. Mighty nice of John to send them.     There was also one Max Mu...

True blue card bloggers

A couple weeks ago, I noticed yet another downturn in card blogging, and I went through my blog reading list to determine how many card bloggers posted at least once a week for the previous week.   It was around 40. That seemed like an all-time low ... or at least since the early days of my blog when I'm sure there weren't even 40 card blogs.   I just checked again, and the numbers were still low, but better this time at just over 50 posting at least once a week.   I'm grateful for anyone who writes about cards at least once a week. Reading card blogs has been a daily ritual for me for more than 17 years and I would hate to move on from that. I don't know how the people who used to regularly read card blogs stopped, frankly. Don't they feel like there's a hole in their day every day?   The amount of card bloggers who write at least once a week and trade through the mail regularly is even less. Much less. But two who still do both just sent me some cards. That ...

Never fear, delivery is here

So I am told there is an ongoing postal strike in Canada. That doesn't affect me here in the States (at least I don't think) except maybe when it comes to cards? That was put to the test recently when Sportscards From The Dollar Store sent me some cards. I got a package maybe a couple weeks ago, which I'm guessing was before the strike happened. Then I received another package from Douglas just a couple days ago, which squeezed through the picket lines I guess? I don't fully know how the mail is working up there, I just know Doug was concerned -- so here's a post letting him know all is well. It's here! Both of them!   I'll split the card showing into Package 1 and Package 2. You can decide which is better, I already did that in the quiet of my own home   PACKAGE 1     Let's start with the complete Bills set from this year's Score football! This is nice to get in the middle of the NFL season, though it's also a reminder of why I don't coll...

Dribs and drabs

When history comes to document my card purchases in March of 2023, it will find one large purchase of 1969 Topps cards. That will be the defining buy of the month for me. The remaining card acquisitions for the month have all arrived in dribs and drabs, only when I have a few spare dollars, never more than a handful each time, sometimes only one at a time. There was no card show, no comc or sportlots binge, not even a blaster splurge this month. I also think I've made my last card purchases for the month, and they're not here yet. So all I have for you is the most recent arrivals. It's probably not much to you, but they are everything to me, right now.   This was a single-card snag from @BettSpaghett79 who is known for offering up single cards for sale once in awhile. Most often, they are prospects I've never heard of, but a Dodger pops up periodically. Perhaps you're wondering why this card, so here it is: Why'd I buy this? 1. It's a Dodger card I need....

Something about thoughts counting

The Dodgers stink you guys. They can't field. They can't run the bases. Their starters can pitch, but not well enough to compensate for the nothing offense and it doesn't matter anyway because they're only going to be removed so a bullpen full of people I don't know can blow the game to smithereens. I know, I know. Your team has problems, too. And I can lean on last year's World Series title. But this is my blog and my team and my feelings. It's hard to watch them right now. Thank goodness I don't have the time lately to watch.   I need a baseball pick-me-up from my cards and fortunately folks are helping out. I received a card and a letter the other day from a collector named Richard. He's emailed me before. I don't have a lot of blog interactions from collectors who are 20 years older than me, so it was nice to get a hand-written letter and some kind thoughts within: "Thank you for your blog, it makes my day" That's what it said. ...

The top 10 cards of 2020 for the World Series champeens

I have not bought any 2020 World Series commemorative cards in the two months since the Dodgers have won the Series.   I'm not above doing that. I still might do so. But I'm accustomed to waiting until the following year for recognition of the previous year's World Series and I haven't lost my patience. I can wait if I want. Heck, I'm still waiting for Topps to recognize the Dodgers' title in 1981.   So you won't see any of those commemorative cards on this list of the top 10 Dodgers cards of 2020.   You also won't see many special cards, no autographs, no relics. I acquired very few of those this year. In fact, as I mentioned in a previous post, I've accumulated fewer 2020 Dodgers cards than I have for any previous year since I've been writing the blog.   That doesn't mean there wasn't Dodgers greatness on cardboard this year. There was.   Some of it was even interesting. As an example, this card: The first thing I noticed about this c...
