RAK from the BCS

I can't think of anyone who runs an online trading card store who is as generous as Steven and Nancy at the baseballcardstore.ca I've taken advantage of their cheap prices on cards, especially during the pandemic. Most of the inventory won't bowl anyone over -- these are cards for the set or team collector, mostly. But I've always found stuff I like/want and you can't beat it when you add up what's in your cart and think, "is that all it costs?" The baseballcardstore has adjusted its pricing format a couple of times, mostly due to rising shipping costs, I believe. But it remains a good deal, which I haven't taken advantage of in too long. That is about to change, though, because of what Steven just sent my way last weekend. He's been storing up Dodgers for me again. And I just received 40 Dodgers cards, simply as a gift, a damn-good RAK. Out of those 40, all but two were needs and some of them were rather needy needs -- I mean like needs goin...

Best of the rest

Here are the rest of the cards that I bought with some magazine-writing money. They're not as exciting as the 1977 Renata Galasso cards that were the stars of this purchase. But they mean quite a bit to me, so let's get to it. The most notable thing about this group of purchases is that I used COMC, ebay and Sportlots together for the first time. I think I'm at the stage in my collection where I need to consult all three, mostly for inventory, but also for prices. The majority of my money went to ebay. COMC and Sportlots got the leftovers. You're going to see the COMC leftovers first. I bought just three 2019 cards. Two of them were Revolution of the Game inserts from flagship. These were maddening in their unavailability when I opened packs. I didn't buy a lot of 2019 Topps, but I did get enough where I think I should have seen at least one of every insert. Unfortunately, Topps now creates eleventy billion inserts so I guess I shouldn't be anno...

Let's open some packs

But not Gypsy Queen or Donruss or any of that sad stuff on the store shelves right now -- old packs -- packs from 1983 , the best damn year on the planet! I'll get to Mr. Magnum in a little while, but I wanted to let you know I was graced with a super fun kind of package from Angus of Dawg Day Cards not too long ago. He included a whole bunch of oddballs and also a handful of unopened packs. This is my kind of package. Before the grand opening let's see some of the cards that were loose and free. They're doozies. OK, these two haven't exactly been let loose, but they will be. I've completed the full set of Kellogg's Dodgers (aside from variations which I will not chase). But I refuse to turn down extras. And Sutton will go toward my quest to complete the '76 Kellogg's set. Curvy cards! The Ron Cey is a '77 Isaly's/Sweet William disc and will go nicely with my chocolate ice cream-stained Cey Zip'z disc. The Andy Messersmit...
