Night Owl Cards

  Unbeknownst to many of you, the 1993 Upper Deck set blog debuted this morning. If you could be so kind to put it on your reading lists and blog rolls (if you can, that is, I'm having issues posting it to my own blog roll). I am aware that set blogs are rather out-of-fashion. Heck, card blogging in general is. The set blog is pretty much what kicked off the card blogging boom, particularly the 1988 Topps blog . I know it's one of the first blogs I ever read, along with The Baseball Card Blog and Cardboard Junkie. So we're talking ancient territory in internet terms. But as a set-builder, I admire immensely the appreciation of each card and can't think of a better way to demonstrate that but through a post about each and every one. You will find no other medium that does that better, nothing on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube or Instagram. Because fewer people understand that kind of treatment, this set blog will be different than my other ones (Yup, this will be my fourth ...

  It's been very bleak outside all day, just dark, grim, wind howling, the worst conditions for taking photographs of baseball cards.   I'm also still recuperating from yesterday's work day, a pretty exhausting and challenging one. So, there won't be too much effort in this post. I hope you still find it interesting.   I've wanted to add onto the blog more "last cards"' for the sets I've completed. The last update was more than a year ago. I keep trying to finish this project off all in one more post, but -- oops -- I've completed so many sets, I can't make the post that long.   So, you'll see another one of these in the future.   I have a couple of state-of-the-blog updates to make, nothing that's interesting enough to generate its own post, so let's get to it. 1. THE GIVEAWAY I thought that I would be at the stage of sending out cards this week, and it's still possible a couple of the first packages will go out by the weekend, but it's more likely it won't start until next week. I'm still gathering cards for the giveaway. It's one of those deals where you know 5,000 cards is a lot of cards but you don't truly know until you give away 5,000 cards. I've got more than 3,000 cards set aside and I'm working on deleting a few hundred more out of my TCDB inventory -- this is the real culprit in terms of me not sending out cards yet. Pretty much the dumbest time to run a card giveaway is in the middle of attempting to upload your whole collection on Trading Card Database.
