Back to the store

In early May, I realized that it had been a long time since I had even looked at the baseballcardstore website .   In the past five years I've made purchased from there two or three times a year. It's a great place to find cheap cards and there's been the bonus of Steven sending cards my way just because or producing made-to-order Dodgers packages for me to grab at my convenience.   But as the site grew more popular I found less and less of interest. All the good stuff seemed to be snapped up right away. And there was another Dodgers super-collector who had discovered the site who was grabbing anything I wanted. Eventually I just stopped checking it out.   When I realized that it had been a year since I had placed an order I resolved to find stuff that fit my collecting interests. If I really tried, it shouldn't be that difficult. I like a lot of stuff. And the cards are cheap, so make an effort, night owl!   It took awhile -- so little time to devote an...

Set chaser

I'm no skirt chaser. I'm no storm chaser. I don't chase ambulances or dogs either. I'm a set chaser. A proud one, too. I pursue lots of different cards in this hobby but above all is the quest for completing sets. I have a list of all the ones that I've finished (that needs updating). But, trust me, they are TOP PRIORITY.   And that doesn't mean there aren't other down-low sets that I like to pursue, you know, casual-like, when I don't want to spend a lot of money or chart my progress. ...

I've been waiting for this

One of the technological improvements of our era that may not really be an improvement is the constant notifications about your purchase. If you've ordered online, you know what's coming: a deluge of updates about the status of your order. It often goes something like this: Thank you for your purchase! Order confirmed/received Order packaged Order shipped! (Long pause, that lasts anywhere from three days to three weeks or more) Order out for delivery Order delivered As a veteran of requesting things through the mail -- I've been doing this since the method was cutting order forms from cardboard cereal boxes -- I don't need nearly that many updates. In fact, it gives me slight anxiety to get all those. And the times when I'm informed that the order has been delivered and it has not, well, is there anything equally inconsequential that's better at putting you in a foul mood for the day?   I've periodically longed for the days of waiting four-to-six-to-eight ...
