Uh ...

I've run into a brick wall with about five different post ideas today, so you're getting a rambling, housekeeping type post while I regroup. For starters, is anyone really happy with this A&G Troy Tulowitzki card? The fog is eating his cap, consuming his glove and has already devoured his left foot. This is not a baseball card, it's a horror movie scene. And while I can't get off of Allen & Ginter, someone explain this to me: I have three of this card. That seems odd because the Matt Garza card is No. 347, which means it's a short-print. Yet, I have more of it than any other card in the set. I know there's a mathematical reason for this -- something to do with probability and other stuff that made me realize how much I detested math when I was in high school -- but I refuse to think about such things anymore. I'm just puzzled by why I still need a regular ol' base card of, say, I don't know, Kate Upton, but the card gods ar...

One-card challenge, update #2

The One-Card Challenge is still going strong and there's been a slew of requests and completions since the last update . So I'll try to get everyone as up to the minute as I can. For those who don't know, the One-Card Challenge's purpose is for collectors to get the word out about the one card that they need to finish off a set. That set could be your average base set, or a team set or even an insert set. The collector leaves a comment on the original post (it's linked over on the sidebar), and then the collecting community goes to work. As usual, if there is a set you completed through the OCC that isn't featured here in one of these updates, or I've mistakenly completed a set that is not finished, let me know. I'll update the update. As far as I can tell, the number of successful OCC completions is now up to 18. With a few others in progress. And I know I'm missing some. On with the update: Challenge: 1995 Topps Stadium Club Hideo ...

One-card challenge, update #1

I said that I would update the progress of the One-Card Challenge periodically. This is the first of what I hope will be several updates. One of the best parts of the One-Card Challenge for a busy person like me is that I don't have to do much to keep it going. I update the original post periodically, forward an address occasionally, and distribute a "congratulations" here and there. But fellow collectors do most of the work. Of course, that's a drawback, too, because I don't quite have a handle on how many One-Card Challenges have been met. So far, I know of nine. And I'll show them all here. But if there are others, please let me know. Here we go: Challenge: Ozzie Smith, 2008 Masterpieces Set Completed by: Captain Canuck Challenge Met by: Two Packs a Day This is the first successful OCC as far as being notified. There might have been one that was completed sooner, but it's hard to keep tabs on stuff like that. As always, if a One-Ca...

Blog of the year spoils

Before getting sick, I came up with the One-Card Challenge. The link to it is over on the sidebar. I'm pleased to announce that the first challenge has been completed. Johnny from Cards From the Quarry is the first person able to check off that last card from his set, thanks to Johngy at Johngy's Beat . (It was a '94 Bowman Ellis Burks, I believe). I have intentions of finishing off the challenge myself. Just need to find some time this week. (Get back, work! Get BACK!) The card that inspired the One-Card Challenge is the 2001 Heritage Jeff Shaw card. I received it from Cardboard Catastrophes after waiting quite a while to fill that hole in the set. Then, of course, I received the very same Shaw card a day later. Gee whiz golly. It came from Wes at Jaybarkerfan's Junk . It was part of my spoils as king of the blogs. Way back at the start of the month -- before I got sick, before the One-Card Challenge -- I was elected "Blog of the Year." It caused...
