Good karma (the blue kind)

I've given a little too much publicity to the Rockies recently and that's just not good for a Dodger fan like me. It can't be good for the team I root for, can it? Karma and all that? Yes, I said, "karma." At this time of year I actually believe what I post on my stupid blog has an effect on how a team plays 3,000 miles from here. I believe anything at this time of year. Tell me that I need to boil an eye of newt to produce a Dodgers victory, and I'm at the newt store. So not wanting to upset the apple cart too much -- it is apple season, you know -- I thought I'd play it safe and post some Dodgers right now. These are some more goodies from Max. He sent me about two-thirds of the 1984 Donruss set, but that wasn't enough for him. He had to send me some more '93 Upper Deck for my set needs there, AND some Dodgers. Max, you're too much. So, aside from the Russell Martin SPx card that I got from Max, let's see what I received on the d...

Another first for newbie night owl

The other day I went to the mall to buy some new tires. Always a fun purchase. As usual, they didn't have the tires that I wanted. They were "out." But, amazingly, they had another brand of tire that was "the cheapest one we have," but still more expensive than the one I wanted. I've been through this charade before. So, after a little haggling, I let them put some new tires on my vehicle and I hit the mall while they did the dirty deed. To ease my pain, I hit the overpriced hobby shop that is right next door. I didn't have much money, especially after taking a hit on the tires, but I knew I wanted to grab a couple packs of Finest for one reason only. And that is: I have never bought a pack of Finest in my entire life . Never. Shocking isn't it? But I'm still keeping my card collector badge. So I was prepared to take the plunge. The guy behind the counter was giddy when I asked for Finest. Then he reached in the box and pulled out the last...

Kershaws finally come home

I did my darndest to prevent myself from receiving free Clayton Kershaw cards. But in the end, Mario of Wax Heaven could not be stopped. He was going to get those Kershaws to me no matter how many obstacles I put in his way. So, despite forgetting to send postage the first time, it wasn't held against me. This week, Mario sent five wonderful Kershaw cards to me from 2009 sets. The first is the Upper Deck SPx base card from this year. SPx is definitely not for me. X, in all its Upper Deck forms, has got to go. I don't even like the X Games. And I don't like weird position designations going down the left-hand side of my card. But it's Kershaw . It's a Dodger. So it must be mine. Here is the Upper Deck base Kershaw for the year. A nice use of the horizontal photo. I'm still not crazy about the gold bar, but it doesn't bother me as much as when I first saw the cards. Kershaw on the 2009 Bowman. The black border is OK with me. I know it chips and all ...
