There's no beating the OGs

I have never traded with anyone for longer in my life than Cards On Cards . Not with my brothers. Not with co-worker Carl years ago. Not that one kid in high school. Heck, high school lasted four years. I've been traded with Kerry of Cards on Cards for 15! I have proof of that, which will become apparent in a couple days. But trust me for now, I'm talking about one of the OGs when it comes to trading.  For years I have sent him my Cardinals and I get his Dodgers. That's an arrangement that has always worked. Since we first started transacting, he's had other collectors come after his Dodgers. I don't know how he distributes them all. I know that when Cardinals collectors have wanted to team trade with me in the past, I've shrugged my shoulders and said, "sorry, Cards on Cards gets them all." I just don't have that kind of inventory. I'm always setting aside cards for him, which makes me feel good when another envelope arrives from all the way...

C.A.: 1951 Bowman Charlie Dressen

(I often wish I could write two posts a day again. It's not that I think I was efficient throwing out multiple posts for already-busy people to read, but I just like the idea of having the time to do it. Apparently I used to. Time for a quick post, which means Cardboard Appreciation. This is the 323rd in a series): This card has popped up a couple of times lately on that social media site that has progressively grown ickier. It's a known favorite and a favorite of mine, one of the best manager cards in my collection, probably in the top five with the 1965 Topps Casey Stengel and the 1988 Topps Tom Lasorda and a couple of others. I like 1951 Bowman, probably even a little more than the '52 Bowmans. The two sets look alike except that the '51s have a name identifier, which I appreciate. I've gotten used to cards with zero words on the front -- stuff like '53 Bowman and '76 SSPC -- but I had a bias against wordless cards quite awhile ago and I don't think ...

Heritage eve

I could not be more excited for tomorrow's anticipated arrival of 2009 Topps Heritage. But I'm also aware that once you've entered the blogger world, you find out that there is always someone out there who is more fired up about something than you are. I had planned to provide a bit of a retrospective on the 1960 Topps set, which is the "inspiration" for 2009 Heritage. But, as usual, someone beat me to it. I don't have half the knowledge about old cards -- or even half the old cards -- as dayf does, so it's best that someone else handle that. So, what I'm going to do is focus on the few 1960 Dodgers cards that I have and relay what I like and dislike about the set. Because chances are that is going to be what I like and dislike about 2009 Heritage (with an extra dollop of irritation aimed at the short-printing). Oh, and this doubles as a "Define the Design" post as well. No prize with this one, as it's too easy. The 1960 Topps set will b...
