Thankful for being thought of

It's Thanksgiving week and I don't know how much I'm going to address the holiday the next few days, so I'll do it here with this post.   I've mentioned before that I'm not a super social person, probably a given for someone who is a writer and into blogging. I'm not out in the community and although I've lived in the same spot for almost 30 years, there are plenty of people in town who have no idea who I am. The interaction I get from, say a store clerk, is the same as if I was someone stopping by while driving through from Kansas.   That's on me as much as anyone else and often why I'm not thought of in real life the way others are. I'm too reserved.   That's why I'm thankful to be thought of here. It happens all the time. People find cards and then they think, "hey, maybe night owl can use these." That's great. Not only does it make me feel good, but I don't have to spend a bunch on product all the time to boost...

Time for only one set at a time

It's getting to be that time of year when there's no time for anything, I mean more so than the other parts of the year in which there's no time. Through it all, though, I'm collecting cards. I'm always collecting cards. I don't leave the hobby for a few days or weeks or months and then come back to it. My collection is on my mind daily and adding to it -- or thinking about adding to it -- is constant. This is why I have so many card collection projects. If one gets too difficult, I can pivot to something else and still have some collecting to do without any break in the action. But for me -- due to time and money -- I have the time to focus on only one set at a time, particularly if it's somewhat tricky. Right now that set is 2023 Heritage. Yeah, I'm still obsessed, though probably not as obsessed as those people who completed Heritage back in May. I'm down to the short-prints, have been for several weeks now. That means no more buying packs or bl...

Holding patterns

There are a couple of people I know who wonder why I'm in such a hurry to retire. I don't know, it just sounds so attractive, especially the closer I get. I don't understand people who want to work until they're 75. (It's another matter if you have to). Also, there are several former classmates of mine who are already retired and I don't know if I've been more envious in all my life. Perhaps you need to be my age to understand. The job, like many others, ain't getting easier. In fact it's getting more complicated. Some of that may be just because I'm not able to process things like I once did, but I think a lot of it is the nature of the current world. And the older you get, the less enthusiasm you have for all of the adjustments , which seems to be the No. 1 thing work is all about these days.   Also, I feel my brain's ability to retain new information waning, even on some basic levels. An example: Yesterday, I looked at my fuel gauge and ...

Fire away

Mercy it's cold out today. I don't like it when the furnace switches on in September. I'm surrounded by people who squawk about the heat so much that I equate warm weather with bitching, so I suppose I should be pleased others are now pleased. But, it's too damn cold for right now! Let's light a fire and get things heated.🔥 I bought a blaster of 2022 Topps Fire recently. Well, "bought" isn't exactly right. It was another gift-card purchase, because why would I be buying this set with my own cash? Some folks would prefer an ebay gift card over one from Target where your choices are limited, but here's the thing: I still trade with people. I need cards that they like. Having cards of all Dodgers is great for me, but it's not helping in trades at all (especially since I can think of at least five dormant Dodger blogs). I need inventory. So, even as I've cut way back on new cards the last few years, I still grab stuff like this once in awhil...
