Showing posts with the label Old School Breaks

Nothing is new

You guys all remember John , don't you? The guy who ran Old School Breaks? He said goodbye to us a year or so ago. But he's still around. He's still collecting, but he's looking to lighten his hobby load, as many of us are doing. John recently sent me a generous stack of cards from his Old School wheelhouse, the late '90s. John was one of the first bloggers to introduce me to the concept of the late '90s being "old school." I remember the first time I heard this, and I thought, "holy crap, I might be too old for these people. The late '90s were just LAST WEEK." But I learned to adjust, adopted some of the lingo, and there are even days when I consider 1997 as positively prehistoric. Speaking of 1997, John sent me this card from that ancient year: Are you seeing what I'm seeing? A card labeled a "Diamond Cut"? A diecut card labeled a "Diamond Cut"? With a shiny, sparkly diamond design at the top of th...

Letting the cards do the talking

Back when I started this post a half a day ago, I was in a foul, foul mood. I had no time and I was in a state of perpetual pissed-off-ness. But I still felt the need to post, which is What I Do these days. The only problem was I was so angry that I didn't think I could write in a way that anyone would want to pay attention to what I was saying. So, I grabbed a stack of cards that I had received in a trade -- one of many that I haven't posted -- and decided to let the cards speak for me. In order to do that, I picked an especially great stack, one from John of Old School Breaks . He always knows how to find me something shiny from an era in which I didn't collect. I wrote a brief intro and somehow managed to get through it without mentioning the words "anarchy" or "dismemberment," and then uploaded a bunch of fancy cards without any further words. Well, some time has passed since then, and although I still don't have time and it's not ...

What 5 dollars will get ya

I'm not talking about cards, my addicted friend. I'm talking about beautiful, glorious storage space! Yep, I plunked down five bucks to free up gobs and gobs of gigabytes fortified with image-uploading power. I can now upload every single bip card from every last one of everyone's bippings and STILL have acres of space left over. I am loving life. Well, blog life anyway. Work life remains a cesspool of suck. But to celebrate my ability to feature as many images as I like once again, I am going to do what you would naturally expect me to do: show a whole bunch of cards that I got! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeee! I will keep the commentary short as this is a post celebrating pretty pictures. These cards come from three separate people -- all very generous folks. So have a gander without the guilt that you might have felt thinking that the next image I posted would be my last. First up is madding from Cards on Cards . I may have received more packages from him than any other ...
