The Ginter goods

Long ago, during a year far, far away, Jeff of 2-by-3 Heroes held a "Tis The Season contest in which he was giving away stacks of surplus cards in a variety of categories. I looked at the cards available and immediately targeted the 2013 and 2014 A&G stack as pretty much the only item I wanted. In a case of "why can't be life be like this contest", not only was I selected as a winner, but I got to pick my first choice, the Ginter stack. A short month-and-half later, it arrived at my domicile, and a short two weeks after that, I'm showing my winnings. The best part of card blogging is there are no deadlines. Jeff, was right, the majority of the cards in the stack were 2013 A&G. In fact, since I was fairly close to completing the set even before I won the contest, here are my "extras' of Jeff's "extras": Those are available to whomever would like to make them theirs. I'd prefer sending someone the whole stack, but i...

I'm a man, yes I am, and I can't help but love you so

First things first. I ran into Tommy John today. I was minding my own business, racing out to mail off some card packages before the post office closed. It's a small office. The space behind the counter is probably 10 feet-by-40 feet. There were a lot of people waiting, a collection of them off to the side and I didn't know if they were really in line or not. So I was in a state already. An older couple was at the front of the line talking to the post office worker. The man, tall with graying hair, was very animated, cracking jokes. Almost non-stop. When I walked in, he was talking about the dance "The Hustle" for some odd reason. And then he'd riff onto a totally different reference. And then another one. Then he turned to face the woman he was with, and I knew instantly: "That's Tommy John!" Suddenly I became uncomfortable. I wanted to be 11 again and run up to him and tell him that he was the first person I ever saw on a baseball card and...

What the devil did I do?

I "borrowed" a little cash over the weekend to get some cards. This almost never happens. I faithfully save my pennies and budget my expenditures so that I have just the right amount of cash for cards. But I have a weakness when it comes to Chrome. It's difficult to explain. I never complete a Chrome set, I don't even find it all that appealing after a few weeks. But yet, when it arrives, I've GOT TO HAVE IT unlike any kind of card product I know. I don't act like this around anything else. Well ... I said any THING else. But, yes, I've made the Chrome-female of the species connection a number of times before, and it's a good way to describe my behavior in both instances. So, as you may have surmised, I have already purchased way too much chrome with borrowed money and I feel lousy about it. I really hate that my first post on this year's Chrome is negative, since the first sniff of Chrome is supposed to be like the first pitt...

Where ya been, babe?

I just received another gift of 2012 Allen & Ginter from the very, very busy Nachos Grande . He's practically completing the set for me with these packages. With this third edition of cards sent my way, I'm down to needing 89 more cards to finish the set. That's pretty good for someone who didn't buy a box of A&G this year. In fact, I'm just about at the stage where buying another blaster of this stuff is a waste of money. I mean I couldn't even use the cards I get from it for blog material. Nobody wants to see A&G anymore. So here, real quick, are the cards I got from Chris: Blah, blah, blah, blah. Blah, blah, blah, blah. You barely looked at them, didn't you? Me, too, even when I was opening the package. Not because I'm ungrateful or anything. In fact, I did a little dance around the back 40 when I learned I could erase more numbers off of my A&G want list. You should have seen the neighbors' faces. With every car...
