Good thing I ordered when I did

You've probably heard that Buffalo got hit with an unfathomable amount of snow. Well, "unfathomable" to people who don't live where you get snow, but still it was a lot, even for us "three-feet-is-nothing" types. Totals are at 6-plus feet in some spots (my brother who lives there just got a little under three feet). I live 3.5 hours from that wonderful city but Buffalo and Watertown are on the same path when it comes to lake-effect snow. We don't get it a lot -- it usually travels to the south of us, that's why no one lives in those spots -- but when the wind is right and Buffalo gets it, we get it, too. We sure got it. We're up to nearly five feet of snow where I'm sitting. I think it's done, but after the last three days I'm a little snow-shy and will believe it when I wake up in the morning and look out my window. I defend where I live to warm-weather types quite a bit, but I admit this weekend I was genuinely wondering why I liv...

Club-hopping

I haven't completed, nor attempted to complete, a Stadium Club set since I finished the 2015 set.   Although nothing since has inspired me enough to try to complete it, I do still like Stadium Club and I do try to buy some of it just to get my fix. I've done that for six years now ... well, five years because I never saw 2020 SC in stores. So it's been five years of a sample here and a sample there. It's what passes for Club-hopping for me these days. Mostly what I want these days is simply to complete the Dodgers team set. I've done that now for all of the most recent series of Stadium Club, from 2014 to, as of last week, 2021. A few days ago, I received the last two Dodgers I needed to finish the base set. Cody Bellinger and Corey Seager. (Sorry for the crooked and light photos. Without my trusty scanner, I've discovered I have zero patience for photographing cards, especially glossy ones).   I exchanged some Stadium Club cards with regular trade partner, Jo...

Canadian-style cards

Once again, Canada Day greetings to all my Canadian readers! It's tradition around here to put a little extra on the last wing ... er, I mean, to recognize my Canadian readers with a blog post on their national day (sorry, binging on the Hot Ones series on youtube)! I've done it for the last five years now, and, quite frankly, I'm not sure how long I can keep this up. Since I live so close to the Canadian border, I hear a lot about Canadian-style this and Canadian-style that. Canadian-style beer (yum!), Canadian-style fries, Canadian-style bagels, bacon, chips, etc. (I don't know if there are Canadian-style chicken wings). I won't surprise anyone who reads this blog by saying there are also Canadian-style baseball cards. Or, there were anyway. I don't remember when I first came across O-Pee-Chee cards and their wonderful take on Topps' American version, I was probably a teenager. But I know I was fascinated immediately, in the same way I was with th...
