Group breakers and card traders

A couple of relative newbies to the group-break hosting experience are teaming up to offer a two-for deal. Join Fantastic Catch's group break , and get a buck off of joining Crackin' Wax's group break . Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. And I know what you're saying. So how come you're not joining then? Well, nosy Nelly, not that's it's any of your business, but I'm reserving my card money for very specific card wants at the moment. I can't say more than that. It will all become clear in the weeks to come. But right now, I just don't have any extra cash for group breaks. What? You have another question? When am I going to host a group break? Ho-ho! What a question! I don't ever plan to host a group break. I have too many expectations and demands on me as it is. Ain't no way I'm going to be responsible for people's card gambling habits. Plus, you have never seen "please join my group break" begging n...

A bunch of nobodies

I am trying to rid myself of the habit of referring to certain major league ballplayers as "nobodies." I know it's a common phrase used by baseball fans. It refers to players who are on the fringe of the major leagues. They could be rookies, and others not so hopeful, who are called to the bigs. They could be pinch-hitters, mid-inning relievers, and late-inning substitutions. But the phrase has gotten myself into trouble a few times. In this hyper-sensitive world, some people have objected to reading my reference of a player as a "nobody." The protests usually come from those connected to the player -- family members, etc. -- or those connected to the team, fans proud of their knowledge of their squad and eager to share it with the less informed. I'm not trying to rid myself of the term because of those people. Those are their hang-ups, not mine. I'm trying to do so because calling players "nobodies" is in direct opposition to my colle...

Awesome night photos, and Dodgers, too

Greetings, from Jacob ... er, Progressive Field in Cleveland! (I can never keep the names of corporately sponsored stadiums straight). Actually, I wasn't in Cleveland. In fact, I've only driven through Cleveland. I've never stopped at the stadium. I just know that it's nice, from what I hear. And these are some nice night game photos provided by Baseball Dad (a.k.a. Jack) of All Tribe Baseball . He took his camera to the ballgame against the Tigers last week and was thoughtful enough to think of me and email some night shots! Great photos. You really have the feeling of being at the park with these pictures. I tried to make one of them into a 1978 Topps baseball card with my fledgling MS Paint skills. But the most basic issues throw me for a loop, so I scrapped that plan until I can figure it out. I will settle for showing you some of the photos he sent. My favorite might be the scoreboard shot up top. But here's another scoreboard shot with the infield a...
