The best dime box ever or someone's pulling my leg

I am currently cataloging the cards from the dime box that I bought at my last card show in April. So it's appropriate that I would receive a surprise package over the weekend from reader Dave with a note that said he was inspired enough by that post about buying an entire dime box to purchase one of his own. Then he said, "All of these cards came from that box. And what a box it was!" After reviewing the contents, I agree. That was some dime box. Far, far, far, far, FAR better than the dime box that I bought. I mean I'm going through card after card of busts from 2014 Bowman in my dime box. But I'm a natural skeptic and it's difficult for me to believe that all of this great stuff from Dave was reduced down to a dime apiece. I'm going to show you the cards and give my own opinion on whether I think they actually came from a dime box and you can play along, too. I'll start with some cards that I'd be surprised if they didn't come...

2016 Topps fender bender

This was supposed to be the last player card that I needed to complete the "just-go-away" 2016 Topps flagship Dodgers team set (still need a league-leader card). But Alex Guerrero here got involved in a fender bender when I wasn't looking. I don't know how it happened, it could have been a myriad of ways. I get so behind on hobby issues that the incoming cards get wedged together in a tight corner of the desk (please don't tell anybody the same thing is happening to the outgoing cards), and damage is bound to happen. Also, cards get packaged so tightly sometimes -- not saying that this is what happened in this case -- that I end up damaging the card getting it out of its quarters. But however it happened, the upper left corner is officially dinged. A closer look: This just will not fly on a modern card. Cards these days come out of packages slick, sharp and shiny. Place a modern card on an incline and it just might slide around the earth before it co...

Dodgers plus a history of violence

I recently received a package from Tony of Off-Hiatus Baseball Cards , who is about the only man I know who writes baseball card blog posts as long as I do. Something he sent made me stop for a moment, and as usual, do a little research. But first, the most important thing: the Dodgers he sent. Let's look at them in all of their splendor:  This completes the 2014 Bowman Dodgers team set for me ... I think - one never knows with Bowman. And here's an extra blue parallel of Guerrero since he might get DFA'd soon because for some reason the Dodgers feel compelled to have Carl Crawford play for them again. Speaking of Carl, this card completes the silver foil version of the Dodgers' Chasing History insert set for me. There were way too many Dodgers in this set. Stuff like this almost convinces me to start collecting Colorado Rockies instead of Dodgers. Life would be so much simpler. Depressing, but simpler. I have an unhealthy n...
