Sorting rules

I'm still a little bit obsessed with the "new" sorting method for my sets -- sorting them by last digit instead of first digit. So I decided I'd continue the experiment with the 2019 sets that I'm organizing this month. November is the month when I start "putting away" the year's current sets, which means cataloging, sorting and stashing. Why not try each method and time myself with each set? So the latest set is 2019 Big League. Here are the times for the old way (hundreds, then tens, then ones) and then the new way (last digit, then middle digit, then first digit): Old way: 16 minutes, 6.84 seconds New way: 14 minutes, 14.71 seconds. That 14-minute mark is the shortest time frame yet in the few times I've done this. So I'm curious to see how things will go with future 2019 sets. The reason why I'm curious about this sorting method is because -- I LOVE SORTING. In fact, this is the very sentence I practically said out ...

Trading is alive and well

I've been reading lately that trading through the blogs is dying out. Mailboxes are empty. Desks clear. Binders and pages waiting in vain. Hooey. Say stuff like that too often or too loudly and it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Trading dying? I don't believe it for a second. Sure, it's not as vibrant a scene as it was six or seven years ago, but as long as there are several bloggers who want to trade, we'll be OK. Because those who want to do something will always press through. No matter what they have going on in life, they'll eventually get to their heart's desire. Take me for instance. I think I've sent out a single PWE in a month's time this spring. Probably didn't send much out before that either. I had my reasons -- oh, did I ever. But I always knew. I always knew what I'd do when I got the chance. I would mail out cards. I never forgot that. People endure episodes. Stuff takes them away from cards. The post office jacks ...

Midseason pack war

We are quickly approaching the mid-point of the baseball season. Within the next week every team will have played half of their games already. This season has gone by faster than any I can remember, mostly because I have barely paid attention. My total baseball viewing since Opening Day has probably amounted to a week of the season. I can remember sitting down to watch a ballgame maybe five times so far. I need to stop slacking and actually view some games and I'm hoping the second half will be more productive than the first half. I'm looking forward to catching up on everything I've missed. I'm sure there are a whole bunch of players running around out there that I have no idea who they are. To get a head start on the second half, I grabbed a rack pack of Topps Series 2 and a rack pack of Big League. I bought the Series 2 because it's new and the Big League because I still find it interesting. Each pack was $4.99, which I found interesting because Series...
