Night Owl Cards

  Catching up with the post the other day in which I pleaded to folks to take some of my Dodgers dupes -- your requests have been noted.   I'll gather what I have for specific player interests ( Jeremy doesn't know it until right now, but I sent an envelope to him Friday). Chris Johnson and Brett Alan are throwing caution to the wind and willing to take whatever cards I want out of the house.   So, speaking of post-office trips, I stopped by before work Friday. There was no line and I was out of there with a little time to kill before going into the office. I decided to stop at Walgreen's on the way for a couple of items.   I've mentioned before that Walgreen's is one of those drug stores on my list of offending outlets who either don't sell cards or make things difficult. Walgreen's has made things difficult. Its cards for the last four years are in a locked glass box, way back where the toys are, far away from the registers. If you  want cards you have to...

  I stopped by Walgreens last week for a couple of items. As I almost always do, I swung by the toy aisle to see if there were any repacks. There haven't been any cards there practically since the pandemic, but habits. I've grabbed so many repacks from Walgreens in the past. One of these days they're gonna return. I reached the middle of the aisle, the customary spot for cards, and in place of the usual hooks and absence of product was this: Cards -- what few there are -- locked in a case. My first instinct was to laugh. Finally, Walgreens has something other than repacks, an actual hanger box of this year's Heritage, and it's in a locked glass case. I was also baffled. This store hasn't featured cards in months, possibly years, Is loss prevention pertaining to trading cards really a big deal for them? I figured it had to be corporate policy, across all the Walgreens, or at least those in the region or something. So I took a trip across town a couple days later ...

I hold grudges against drugstores. I grew up during a time when it was pretty much a given that if you ran a drugstore, you were going to offer trading cards in your store for the kiddies. I can't remember walking into a drugstore that did not sell cards for the first 25 years of my life. That isn't the case anymore. And it pisses me off. It annoys me so much that when I'm in a drugstore and I notice that it doesn't sell cards, it goes on the mental list, and I make it a priority to never frequent that drugstore again. Emergencies excluded, of course. There is one drugstore that is prominent where I live that does not offer cards for which I make an exception. It happens to be very close to me and I can't afford to not shop there periodically. But I won't tell you its name because I'm not giving it free publicity because IT DOESN'T SELL CARDS!!!
