Do over

This is a trade post I've written over and over again. And it's never made it past "draft." I usually don't have that much trouble writing a post. I'm always reading about bloggers leaving half-finished posts in "draft," and that never happens to me. I mean, I have writer's block and all that, but once I start writing, there's nothing that stops me from hitting the bright orange "publish post" button. I'm committed 100 percent. I'm like my dog chasing a squirrel. I may never hit my mark, but there's no way I'll quit now. But on this one I just couldn't get moving. I'd try one angle, and another one and all of them stunk. And then I thought about what I would've done three years ago at this time. I would've just posted all the cards I received and never thought anything about it again. Themes? Foreshadowing? Plot Twists? These were baseball cards, right? So that's what I'm gonna do ...

The Lowe down

I can't talk about the current state of the Dodgers without throwing just about everyone under the bus. (Clayton, however, you're excused). So I am moving on. The Dodgers are beginning a series in San Francisco tonight. It's part of their glorious recent schedule that has included the Red Sox, the Angels, the Yankees and now the Giants. To kick off the series against the ultra-despised Giants in the house that Barry built (you must be so proud), I thought I'd show something that's near and dear to my judgemental heart. Wicked Ortega sent me another crazy package a couple of weeks ago. I'll display some of the other cards in the next post, but here is the Derek Lowe jersey card from 2008 Upper Deck that he sent me. Note that Mr. Lowe happens to be pitching in San Francisco. If you have been reading this blog at all the last couple of years, you know that I like to bring up the fact that photos of Lowe pitching in San Francisco pop up constantly. So I though...

Best of the aughts (as in "aughta been better")

I'm stealing another blogger's idea again. And it's another one of those all-time best team posts. Paul over at Phungo just listed his Phillies team of the decade. The team of the Aughts (because no one knows what to call this decade). If you ask me, a Phillies fan has an easy time of it. The Phillies did just win a World Series. That team had a few players that stood out. It's not so easy with the Dodgers. This was a decade of transition for L.A. It seems like half the decade the Dodgers had no idea what they were doing. All you have to do is look at who they put out on the field in 2005. Hee Seop Choi . Mike Edwards. Jason Phillips. Ricky Ledee . I mean these were the starters . So, coming up with the best at each position was tricky. But I tried to stick to the format that Phungo created. The only thing I didn't do was name an MVP for the decade. I think a team needs to win a World Series for me to be naming MVPs . I guess if the Dodgers win the Series ne...

Break time

We are holding a garage sale today. There are all kinds of questionables pulling up to the house. The dog has been whining all day. I want it to be over quickly. So I'll post some cards I received in a couple of trades to take my mind off the proceedings. The first are from Rob of Voice of the Collector . I keep sending him 20 th anniversary Upper Deck cards, and instead of sending me something appropriate back, like a restraining order or anthrax, he sends me Dodgers! I received several Topps Attax cards. I may or may not have the whole set of Dodgers by now (aside from all the foil variations). I have no idea if there is a checklist for these cards. I like this card because Lowe is wearing the patriotic Dodgers cap. I believe it's from his 4 th of July start from last year. Appropriately, it was in San Francisco, where it seems just about all of Lowe's Dodger card photos were taken. Lowe got the win even after giving up five runs in five innings. Russell M...
