C.A.: 1990 Score McDonald's Ramon Martinez

(Woooo, I can tell it's March! I've got so many things going on that I'm misplacing stuff like I'm my absent-minded grandma. Between the weather alerts, birthday preparations, endless playoffs, rising costs, deer running down my street (yes, that's a thing) -- ANYBODY KNOW WHERE MY DERMATOLOGY BILL WENT? Hell, let's go without one hour on the weekend, too. Nobody needs an extra moment to catch their breath at this time of the year!! Squeezing in a Cardboard Appreciation. This is the 366th in a series):   One of the reasons I'm still reading blogs 18 years in is because they continue to offer a wide variety of card subjects and cover them in-depth. Maybe youtube can do that, but who wants to listen to someone blather on about cards for that long?   Blogs are still good for unearthing cards that you didn't know you needed or for reminding you that you still need that card -- we old people who still read blogs are sometimes forgetful.   A couple of weeks...

C.A.: 1992 Diet Pepsi Gary Carter

(Good evening, it's National Brownie Day. I am a simple man, I prefer brownies without nuts, frosting or any other weird experiment bakers want to try. Naked brownies are perfect as they are, don't try to change them. Time for Cardboard Appreciation. I was shuffling through the cards quickly, taking note of who was in the set and how they looked without any licensing, when a card leapt out of my hands and punched me in the head: There were two reasons for this. First, I realized that Brett Butler, as I had mentioned in my previous post, is NOT in the set, which meant there were no Dodgers in the set. Second, there ARE Dodgers in this set because ...

Sundays only

A couple of weeks ago I posted about my appreciation for Saturdays gone by and in particular Saturday card bloggers -- those bloggers who post only on Saturdays. Today, I'm addressing Sundays and Sunday-only card bloggers. For me, Sundays are my Saturdays. It's a recuperation day from the week that's passed. I usually don't do a lot that day unless the Monday-thru-Fridayers insist on doing something. It's mostly a day for baseball watching (or football watching) and music listening. I usually blog that day, too. As a youngster, Sundays were for church and shopping, of course. That was the day when a trip to the ice cream shop was most likely. It was a day for cookouts and fun food and riding bikes and walking to the drug store to find cards. As I got older, I worked in a department store and Sundays were a day the sales started -- and the day most likely for a customer to insist something was on sale that wasn't on sale -- and the first time I experienced w...
