Now you see him, now you don't, now you see him again

My Father's Day was nice and all too brief.   Staying home was imperative. Anywhere I would want to go on this day would require a drive and we definitely are not doing that on Father's Day. So, the day consisted mostly of watching baseball -- A's/Royals, Cardinals/Brewers, then Giants/Dodgers. Yay, a victory! Beat back those BusterPoseys!    I also talked on the phone with my daughter (a big deal for any Gen Zer), which was the obvious day highlight. I ate pizza and chicken wings, my requested dinner, which thrilled my wife who didn't have to cook. And I opened some baseball cards. The 2025 Heritage blaster and the gift card were Father's Day presents. I haven't decided how to handle the gift card yet. (It will not be used on any Series 2, the amount dupes I've seen pulled from a single retail box is offensive even before getting to the price hike).   The Heritage box went pretty well considering I'm getting down to the "Handful of Base Cards Plu...

Keep on tryin'

What I like about the bloggers who still swap cards with other bloggers -- what are we down to like a dozen now? -- is that they're persistent. Most of us have been collecting publicly for awhile now and have accumulated a lot of cards because of that. It's a little bit tough to crack each other's collections -- I know, because I keep on trying. But if you stay persistent, you'll find something that another collector needs and you'll find something that I need.   Yes, even 15 years in, there's still plenty on my want lists.   Nick of Dime Boxes is one of those good collecting eggs that still tries and I'm happy he does because he's still finding cards off my want lists, sometimes cards that I needed that I didn't even know existed. No-Neck Williams has a minor league manager card? OK, no idea, but, yeah, I needed that!    Nick remembers what I collect and keeps trying -- to find some cards that crack my Allen & Ginter frankenset binder. The bi...

Revisiting (and researching) the book

The topic of The Great American Baseball Card Flipping, Trading And Bubble Gum Book came up again on the socials today.   It seems to be a repeated topic around this time of year. Maybe people received that book for Christmas as kids, or want it for Christmas. I got it for Christmas about 12 years ago.   So, I thought I'd trot out the book again and update a post from two years ago, when I went through the book to find how many cards in my collection are showcased in the book.   Two years ago I determined there are 243 card images in the book that I have. (I also added the five cards on the front to make 248 but those cards are repeated inside, so that was an error on my part). And I determined I had 48 of the cards shown. I went through the book again today and totaled 50 cards in the book that I have, so I've added two since. However, I'm pretty sure that I didn't own these three since I did the count the last time. So either I over-counted the last time or I'm...
