I wish every set was as easy to name as the 1990 Classic baseball set. Not only is it easy to name but it has a name that describes its era perfectly. That's what I want for every set -- to have a name that evokes a period in pop culture history. Cards produce memories, of a time, of a place, and a name for a set would help capture that period easily and forever. But, unfortunately, most sets aren't as easily labeled as 1990 Classic. With its wild, bright colors and its crazy, zig-zag, tiger patterns ... ... there is really only one name for this set. The "Saved By the Bell" set. I think almost everyone agrees with that. Even someone like me who was in his mid-20s when kiddies were watching Zack, Kelly, Screech and Mr. Belding. Such an easy set to name. Other Classic sets? Not so easy. I don't know what to name the 1989 Classic set. "Silver-to-Magenta Gradiant Set"? It doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. And that...

More disconnected thoughts

I have little time for a work-intensive post (i.e. lots of scanning) today. But I do have random thoughts bouncing around in my brain -- ones that actually have to do with card blogging -- so I'm gonna post them here. You can all get a look at what's going on inside my head together. Yes, I teed that one up for you. OK, randomess: Randomness 1: Al Oliver is posted here because I've decided to take steelehere's suggestion and do a series on Dodgers uniform numbers, number by number. The suggestion was to start at No. 1, but Oliver wore number zero for the Dodgers, and I can't forget him. So there. I've already started. Al Oliver wore No. 0 for the Dodgers. That was easy. But the other numbers won't be as easy. There's a fair amount of research, and I guarantee I'll get something wrong. Also, the No. 10 worked so well because I could attach a pretty girl to the post. I doubt I can do that every time. Despite what AdamE insinuated, I try not...

Back to the present ... sort of

I've done a lot of reminiscing on this blog the last couple of days, and with all the work I've put into nostalgiazing, I suppose you think there's been no time for trading. Ha! There's always time for trading. That is if you define "trading" as taking forever to respond to a trade request, taking even longer to find some cards for your trading bud, taking even longer, longer to send out those cards, and taking even longer, longer, longer to post about them. If that's what you mean by trading, then, yeah, I'm all over that. This is a deal made with GCA of The Collective Mind . In my usual backward way, I am posting the cards before I get his return package in the mail, so I've already turned what I wrote two paragraphs ago into a bold-faced lie. But disorganization aside, isn't it nice to see some present-day activity from me instead of wallowing in memories of the '70s and '80s? Here are some relatively recent cards fr...
