Showing posts with the label Jose Altuve

One team

Before I get to the main theme of the post, I wanted to poll the card bloggers -- at least the ones who use Blogger -- and ask, in the last two weeks or so, what time does your post show up on blog rolls and Blogger's reading list after you post it?   I'm asking because it's been very frustrating for me, hitting publish -- both here and the 1993 Upper Deck blog -- and then not seeing that post pop up on blog rolls/reading list for hours, sometimes a day ... or more.   A couple of examples.   My last post on Saturday, " Going to the Files ," didn't show up on either of those two Blogger notification systems for hours. I published it around 5 p.m., early for me. But it didn't show up until the next day after I got up in the morning -- then there it was, saying I published it 12 hours prior.   On Sunday, I made a post to the 1993 Upper Deck blog. I published it around 2 in the afternoon. At 8:30 p.m., my blog roll, which includes both of my blogs, said thes...

30 teams, 2020 edition

I don't do a lot of baseball card shopping in March. It remains the busiest month on the calendar and I'm also shopping for family birthdays this month, so cash goes toward gifts rather than card goodies. But still the cards end up in my cart ... on a smaller scale. As much as gift shopping has become an online venture, I still find myself in Target or Walmart for a few birthday things, and when I do, it's always necessary to take the edge off with a small something from the card aisle. Yesterday, I was in Target and I snagged a single hanger pack of 2020 Topps Series 1. It was an excellent choice as this relic/auto of Jose Altuve showed up. It very likely could be my pull of the year, which is too perfect considering how much I dislike the Astros right now. The Altuve is already reserved for Marc , one of the few people out there who doesn't have an issue with the Astros at the moment. So I'm glad someone who will appreciate it will end up owning it. Two Steady Eddie fans

Today is Eddie Murray's 61st birthday, and for that occasion I have now trotted out this 1985 Topps card of Murray on two social media sites. It really is the greatest Eddie Murray card. Even though I am a Dodger fan, I identify Murray with the Orioles, of course. He played for Baltimore for the first decade of his career and only a handful of years with the Dodgers. For 10 years, there was nothing but Murray Orioles cards in my collection. Murray almost never talked to the press, which is a reason for me to dislike him. But I can't help it. I still like him. Someone who I know also likes him is Commish Bob . He just happened to showcase a bunch of Murray cards on his blog yesterday, Murray's birthday eve. And I just happened to receive some cards from Commish Bob recently. None of them are Eddie Murray cards, but they sure are great. I'll lay the most spectacular on you first. Those are a bunch of 1956 Topps off my want list. Not many names I know -- alth...
