Presenting the 2012 card of the year ... yes, 2012

"What the hell is that fool doing? He knows that's a card from 2010, right? "And why are we talking about 2012? That was two years ago! He expects me to stay around for a card from two years ago? How lazy is he that he can't even stay current. I mean, I know he's stuck in the past, but this is pathetic. "It's bad enough that there's an A's card leading off this thing. Bleeping Night Owl and his bleeping minis." Hey! Hi there! I'm ignoring all those bad things you just said about me to tell you I played a little trick on you like I often do! The card at the top doesn't really have anything to do with the post at all! It's only tangentially related to what I want to talk about! This is to get you to actually click on the post rather than ignore it because the card image at the top bores you! Isn't that sneaky of me? Well, that's what you get for bad-mouthing minis. Anyway, the reason that the Andrew Bailey card is...

Deluge

This is the time of the year when the card collecting world is at its craziest. If I was a player collector, I'd never survive. All of those brand new 1/1 of listings and other rare cards of your favorite player suddenly popping up everywhere would drain my will to live. I'm already exhausted as it is and I have plenty of collecting outlets -- new cards, old cards, Dodgers, every player under the sun, and under the moon. Sets, subsets, inserts sets, you name it. My collecting success isn't decided by a single guy. But I'm truly swamped right now. Buying a blaster of 2013 Topps might not have been the smartest idea, because I've created like 8 more trades for myself, and I should have known that was going to happen. So this is more for me than is for you. This is the itinerary for my card packaging. I'll try to stick to it. This weekend Pack and mail cards to: David (Pirates fan), mr. haverkamp, 2 by 3 Heroes, Phungo, Plain Gray Swatch and Twitter...

Feeling odd

I've just returned from out-of-town. Four nights away and pretty loopy from an all-day drive. So how about a smattering of oddballs since I'm feeling so odd? Each of these came from Listia. Lately, all that has interested me on that site are oddball cards. Part of the whole ebb-and-flow of the site, I think. If they keep throwing TCMA cards up for bid, I"ll keep coming back for more. This is from what seems to be the ubiquitous 1987 Greatest Teams set. I often confuse Snider and Alston on cards -- must be the silver hair -- so it's good to see both of them in the same place where I can keep them straight. On to a Pacific Legends card. I obtained this one only because I suddenly became ashamed by how few Seattle Pilots cards I have. I think this is just my second one. But it's a good one. Gary "Ding Dong" Bell will forever be remembered as Jim Bouton's roommate on the '69 Pilots as recounted in "Ball Four." "Smoke '...

Maybe hobby boxes are overrated

I received this snazzy Matt Kemp Chrome refractor from All The Way To The Backstop recently. But that's not the topic of this post. It popped up in the middle of a whole mess of 2012 Allen & Ginter want list needs, which cut said list down quite nicely. Then Democratic Roadkill weighed in with his share and knocked the list down a few more notches. A quick look at some cards from both guys: With these cards from those two packages, I am down to needing 27 more cards for the set -- with another lot on the way. Remember how long it took me to complete last year's set? Almost a full year. Now, I haven't actually completed this year's A&G set yet, but the chances are fairly good that I will finish it off in less than a year's time. It's even possible that I'll complete it earlier than the previous three years, when the finish date was in November or December. So what is the difference between this year and last year?...

What the devil did I do?

I "borrowed" a little cash over the weekend to get some cards. This almost never happens. I faithfully save my pennies and budget my expenditures so that I have just the right amount of cash for cards. But I have a weakness when it comes to Chrome. It's difficult to explain. I never complete a Chrome set, I don't even find it all that appealing after a few weeks. But yet, when it arrives, I've GOT TO HAVE IT unlike any kind of card product I know. I don't act like this around anything else. Well ... I said any THING else. But, yes, I've made the Chrome-female of the species connection a number of times before, and it's a good way to describe my behavior in both instances. So, as you may have surmised, I have already purchased way too much chrome with borrowed money and I feel lousy about it. I really hate that my first post on this year's Chrome is negative, since the first sniff of Chrome is supposed to be like the first pitt...
