The anti-blob

A few years ago, I introduced you to the concept of " the blob ," which is merely the player to make the last out in a ballgame. By extension, "the ultimate blob" is the player to make the final out in the World Series. I hope to keep that particular list going for as long as this blog exists. But the other day, while working on a post on another blog, I began to think about "the anti-blob". The "anti" to the blob, of course, would be someone who ended a game with a hit. The always celebrated "walk-off". And the ultimate anti-blob would be someone who did that in the World Series. Bill Mazeroski, Joe Carter, Edgar Renteria, etc. But actually, strictly speaking, the "anti-blob" would not merely be the "walk-off" variety of hit. It would be anyone who got the last hit in a game. And the ultimate anti-blob would be anyone who got the last hit in a World Series. It doesn't matter whether it ended a game. Ju...

The first Mother's Day trade post spectacular/extravaganza

I was wracking my brain earlier today trying to come up with a Mother's Day post. But then I realized something. First, there are three mothers who are a big part of my life. One lives in the house with me, the other is her mom, and the other is my mom. All three of them couldn't give a damn about baseball cards. Not only that, but they don't care about baseball or sports in general really. They certainly don't care about what's written here. Second, I wrote what I had to say about my mom and baseball last year . That sums it up. So, given that, I think I have the green light for: A GINORMOUS, SPECTACULAR TRADE POST EXTRAVAGANZA!!!!!!!!! And on we go!!!!!!! These first cards are from Jim of  GCRL . He always seems to be able to track down a Nebulous 9 need. This was the last 1986 Donruss Dodger that I needed to complete that wretched-looking set. The Nebulous 9 list is now eight cards. I'll get to work on getting back to nine. A pair of ...

Cool stuff

Now that I have your attention, I am going to show a few recent acquistions that I think are cool. You may think so, too. Or you may not. But that's fine. We know who's really right. I pulled this 2010 short-print Carlton Fisk card out of the first pack from a blaster purchased yesterday. I am averaging one short-print-per-Topps-base-set a year, and each happen to have been Chicago players. I'm willing to trade this card, but it's got to be in exchange for something cool. For example, I'm still looking for the Jackie Robinson and Pee Wee Reese short-prints from 2009 Topps. Now, for those of you whose attention wanes whenever the latest and greatest isn't featured, your time here is done. Go find something shiny. For the rest of you, you may remember that I have sworn off blasters this year. It's sort of working. I have purchased two blasters so far -- but one was with money intended for a card show that I never went to and one was with money obtain...
