Logos rule all

Last night at work was one of those nights that I wouldn't wish on anyone's job. I can't explain it to those who don't have my job and it'd probably be boring regardless, but let's just say it had to do with computer issues and waking three different people out of a dead sleep. Before we knew what the problem was (and we don't exactly have a clear idea now), we were blaming it on the new logos placed in the paper. Graphics -- for those who don't have the word in their job title with the word "designer" after it -- can be a genuine, time-consuming pain in the ass. But the funny thing is, everyone loves logos. I'm not going to use numbers to back up that statement. It's just understood. Everyone loves logos. The latest example is the poll results for the Biggest Improvement/Biggest Bust in Fleer card history. Here is what was voted the biggest improvement: 1982-83 Fleer: 18 votes 1983-84 Fleer: 11 votes 1995-96 Flee...

Awesome night card, pt. 38

Man, am I tired. Doing the job of two people is complete bull doodie, and it is one sure way to get a blogger to stop blogging. Don't worry, I'm not going down that easy. But I am posting a mighty short one tonight. And you might not see me again until 24 hours have passed. So, here we go: I ask you, what is the best part of one of my favorite night cards of all-time here? a) the old-school Donruss design b) the old-school ball player name (Elias Sosa, how great is that?) c) the old-school Expos uniform d) the old-school Expos cap Aw, hell, that's a toughie isn't it? I'm making you choose between the uniform and the cap. Both equally great, oui? The early '80s was a great time. Yeah, we were in a recession then, too. But who didn't love powder blue road uniforms and the Alan Parsons Project? Don't you dare raise your hand in response to that question.

Of pocket knives, postal carriers, and ... oh, yeah, baseball cards

I'm not on speaking terms with my mail carrier. Not that he knows this yet, but the next time we see each other face-to-face, which happens about, oh, every four months, I am going to give him the silent staredown. Until today, I had not receive mail in three days. Sunday and Monday, of course, there was no mail. On Saturday, we had a wicked snowstorm in which we received a foot-and-a-half of snow between 4-10 a.m. We received no mail that day, too. Whatever happened to that saying, "neither rain, nor sleet, nor dark of night ..."? I guess "wicked snowstorm" isn't on the list, huh? So, I was anxiously awaiting the mail today because I knew there were some cards on the way. I did receive three packages, which is fantastic. But I know my mail carrier is holding out on me. The mail load was probably quite heavy after no mail on Saturday (I received a number of other articles of mail today, as well -- bills, magazines, investment notices informing me that my r...
