Shadow Tones

Gary Bartz - The Shadow Do [CR00418 USA 2022 24-Bit 176.4kHZ FLAC] Originally released on Prestige Records in 1975. Although not the most familiar name in the jazz world these days, Gary Bartz was a talented saxophonist who performed with the likes of Eric Dolphy, McCoy Tyer and Art Blakey. Like many of his peers his solo career developed around soul-jazz and R'n'B circles in the seventies. Heavily sampled by hip-hop artists in the eighties & nineties, original copies of such albums as The Shadow Do have become highly desirable in recent years. Although, I'd never have him down as a great vocalist, this fine album is a fine representation of his talents as a musician, composer and band leader - the opening funk of Winding Roads is an absolute gem of a track. Cut from the original master tapes by Kevin Gray and pressed onto  uniquely finished gold vinyl by RTI, this recent very limited reissue was released as part of a collaboration between Vinyl Me Please and Craft ...

Fire! Orchestra - Echoes [RLP3231 3LP NOR 2023 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] Next up is a three album set in a limited pressing run which seems to be featuring on many end-of-year critics list.  Sweden's Fire! Orchestra have been around for a while, this is their seventh album, however Echoes is going to have the biggest impact than any of their previous long players. Expanding to a sizable forty-three musician membership, their Echoes  album is an expansive two hour long work of contemporary jazz, mixed in with passages of ambitious avantgarde, experimental free-jazz and modern progressive rock. Whilst this album should always be classified as jazz, it takes the genre further than any other jazz album in recent years, and possibly for years to come. I hear elements from twentieth century industrial music scattered within - there are parts of these records which Coil would have been proud of, however mix these in with influences of Ornette Coleman & Pharoah Saunders, and...

Prefab Sprout - From Langley Park To Memphis [KWLP9 UK 1988 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] Following the dizzy pop stardom found on the Steve McQueen album, make that Two Wheels Good if living in the USA, Paddy McAloon came under pressure from CBS to deliver another hit album, so he gave them the demo-like Protest Songs album. CBS were unimpressed so enforced a delay whilst McAloon returned top the studio with a host of producers, and a little bit of help from Stevie Wonder & Pete Townshend to write more radio friendly pop songs. From Langley Park To Memphis was the result and whilst brimming with commercial Sprout-pop, it could only deliver one hit single,  The King Of Rock'N'Roll . It still surprises me today that Hey Manhattan and Cars And Girls failed to breach the upper UK charts as they should both be considered Sprout standards these days - this album also featured another single which bombed, but remains one of my favourite McAloon penned tunes, The Golden Calf .   Duke Pearson - The Phantom [BST 84293 USA 2020 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] Originally released on Blue Note Records in 1968. The twelfth album by American pianist Columbus Calvin 'Duke' Pearson, Jr developed the hard-bop style further with soul-jazz and latin blends into ambitious new territory. Built around the cool groove of the title track, Pearson allows his fellow band members to take the lead, especially Jerry Dodgion's flute and those vibes from Bobby Hutcherson, whilst his piano sits back in the melody holding everything together with the rhythm section.  If you've had enough of Christmas music for this year, and if you appreciate fine jazz, then perhaps this album will be perfect for you.  Recorded in June and September 1968 at the Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. Cut from the original master tapes by Kevin Gray and re-released as part of the Blue Note Tone Poet Series back in October 2020. Happy Jazz Sunday! A1 The Phantom A2 Blues F...

Various Artists ‎- Merry Christmas [TWI 450 BEL 1984 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] I really wanted to create a new rip of this rare & obscure compilation album last posted at Christmas 2018, so no time like the present. If you know your Crépuscule compilations. you'll know that most have re-released in a variety of differing guises with different tracks in differing sleeves for different territories. One that has never reappeared is Merry Christmas . This mini album, in a classic Belgian bande dessinée sleeve, has never surfaced again since it's limited run out in Belgium in 1984.  Whilst many of you alternatively obscure chaps will be attracted to the very rare Current 93 track, for me it's all about the full version of Soft Verdict's gorgeously choral delight  The Fosse which runs at nearly eight minutes. The track is wonderfully simple & atmospheric, and whilst the obligatory sleigh bells are missing, I can think of nothing more charming to welcome in this dark ...

Random Goth Clichés

Image
The Cure - Disintegration [FIXH 14 EU 1989 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] Appreciated by many, including myself as their best album since Pornography as well as an antidote to their Lovecats and Caterpillar period, The Cure's eighth delivered enough gloomy bedroom gothica to entertain even their most intense fans, but also just enough pop-melodies for their newer fans. Some say this record is The Cure doing what The Cure do best, whereas others say Disintegration is just Robert Smith broadening his goth clichés to reach a wider audience. There is no doubt that Disintegration is a gloomy album, however by squeezing almost an hour of music onto two sides of vinyl, it needed a lot of tinkering when the lacquers were cut. The ideal length of a vinyl record at 33rpm is no more than forty minutes, therefore you can understand how the label's demand for a single record affected the vinyl mastering choices. Consequently, this record is cut very quietly ....and therefore a vinyl ripper...

La Düsseldorf - La Düsseldorf [6.22 550-01 DEU 1976 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] When Neu! split in 1975, Klaus Dinger teamed up with brother Klaus and Hans Lampe to form La Düsseldorf. Where the Neu! albums had influenced the post-punk generation, it was the albums by La Düsseldorf which influenced the earliest British synthpop bands from the eighties.  This was their self-titled first album which opens with raw seventies jet noise from Düsseldorf airport (hence the sleeve image) and football crowd chants from the local team Fortuna Düsseldorf. Time now for a tenuous punk link as Fortuna were once saved from financial oblivion years later by a campaign championed by quirky German punks, Die Toten Hosen. Back to the story, Klaus Dinger didn't quite have the same eclectic skills with the guitar as Michael Rother (now working with Eno & Cluster, plus his solo work), however his trashy chord style did fit with the new punk sounds coming out of the UK. The...

Sahib Shihab - Sahib Shihab And The Danish Radio Jazz Group [OKLP 111 FRA 2023 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] Originally released on an extremely rare album on Oktav Records in Denmark in 1965. Sam Records have pulled another rabbit of of the jazz hat with this brand new pressing of this much in demand album - original copies fetch around $4000 on the secondary market, if you can find them. The original master tapes were shipped to Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio who cut this new release all analogue in a strictly limited pressing of 3000.  A small boutique pressing plant,  Garcia & Co in Marciac, France have produced one of the quietest sounding vinyl pressings I have ever heard. Garcia & Co only work with small batch releases, and if the quality of this pressing is to go by, they certainly have one of the best sounding vinyl formulas on the market. Saxophonist  Sahib Shihab was originally known as Edmund Gregory and performed with greats such as Art Blakey...

A New Classic

Yussef Dayes - Black Classical Music [BWOOD310RT UK&US 2023 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] Pride of place (and an early start) for a jazz Sunday is one of the best new albums of 2023, by one of the very best new, young jazz drummers Yussef Dayes. Digitalia members will know this from my digitally sourced post earlier this year - here is the double vinyl edition which is considerately mastered for vinyl to truly reveal the full dynamics of this high quality recording. Essentially a multi-genre album of organic music, crossing over between contemporary jazz, funk, soul, afrobeat and hip-hop, Black Classical Music will no doubt feature on most music critics best of the year list. Well recorded and performed by some the best of new young, mostly British talent, this album is a highly enjoyable listen from beginning to end.   Van Morrison - Moondance (Steven Wilson Mix) [R1 536560 UK&EU 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] Steven Wilson has been one of the hardest working musicians over the past few decades, his new work remixing old classic albums is becoming widely recognised the world over, so much so that he can now pick & choose his work. Although he works in the digital domain (these new mixes have only previously been available on a blu-ray), he has shown great care and consideration in bringing old recordings back to life. Cut by Kevin Gray & Matthew Lutthans (a new name in quality mastering) at Cohearent Audio and pressed onto super quiet vinyl at Optimal Media in Germany (we knew they could do it), this three LP set is a treat for the ears. The remixed original album is covered on LP1, whilst a whole bunch of demos, alternative mixes and out-takes span the additional vinyl volumes. You need this. A Harmony Of Genres

Image
Steven Wilson - The Harmony Codex [SW7V3 UK&EU 2023 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] Here is an album which came out in a multitude of formats back in September, I have not seen too many vinyl rips out there as digital sources have been circulated instead. Wilson is a key exponent of the ATMOS medium so you could believe this album was recorded with that format in mind. The regular two channel digital formats come in at a reasonable dynamic response of DR10, this vinyl edition clocks in at a more comfortable DR12. This edition was mastered by Matt Colton who also cut the vinyl editions of Peter Gabriel's recent I/O album. I am pleased to hear less compression was applied to The Harmony Codex .  Since Wilson's To The Bone album in 2017, he has sought to widen his audience by combining pop & modern electronics into his work. This has in turn 'upset' his core fan base who continually expect fifteen minutes per track of progressive rock pyrotechnics. His 2020 album The Fut...

What Lies Within

Dead Can Dance - Toward The Within [DAD 4015 UK 1994 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] I've had a few requests to re-post my May 2020 rip of Toward The Within since last week's upgrade rip of Dead Can Dance's debut album. I was going to re-post it to Digitalia, however instead a change of plan, here is a brand new 176.4kHz rip. Following their post-punk period, I found Dead Can Dance to be both creative & downright pretentious, whilst their eclectic interpretations of world music fitted perfectly with the new compact disc generation. As part of the 4AD roster for most of their career, they were just allowed to get on with what they did when Ivo's attention was on the new developing American alternative rock of Throwing Muses and their ilk. This live album, recorded on the 16th & 17th November 1993 at The Mayfair Theatre in Santa Monica is a fine example of how good they are live. Originally an album, video cassette and laser disc, the edited set was eventually a DVD. Th...

Blacker Than Blue

Image
Hula - Black Wall Blue [REDT72 UK 1986 24-Bit 176.4 kHz FLAC] The introduction of Darrel D'Silva on saxophone moved the Hula sound briefly close to that of contemporaries Chakk on their Black Wall Blue single. Complex rhythm patterns and slapped basslines, combined with twin vocalists made Black Wall Blue a slow brooding number which stands out today as one of their best singles. The single is backed with the more industrial track Stocky & the horror movie soundtrack inspired 2 A.M. A1 Black Wall Blue B1 Stocky B2 2.A.M.

The Big Freeze Out

Image
Hula - Freeze Out [RED T64 UK 1986 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] Back to the Hula re-rips and the first of two twelve inch singles today. Freeze Out was a development of the earlier track Sour Eden , initially recorded for a VPRO radio session in The Netherlands (to save you checking, only the live version was included on 1000 Hours ) and a BBC Radio John Peel session. Both of those session tracks appear of this record. The Hula sound was continually developing, whilst still using regular instruments such as live drums, bass and horns, more & more electronics became more prominent as the releases progressed. This direction was pointing the band towards the growing indie music club dancefloor, however I'm not too sure how you dance to this track. Not A Second Glance was recorded in Holland and reflected more on their early Cabaret Voltaire influenced work. A1 Freeze Out (Club Version) B1 Freeze Out (Radio Version) B2 Not A Second Glance

Neu! Wave

Image
Neu! - Neu! [LPGRON 1 DEU 2010 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] Recorded in December 1971 at Windrose Studios in Hamburg by Klaus Dinger, Michael Rother and Connie Plank. Originally released on Brain Records in 1972. Many, many music careers were built from what was contained in this record, and many of them had not even heard this album. The influence of  Hallogallo and  Negativland can be heard on artists as diverse as David Bowie and Joy Division, and many newer bands today. In fact, the roots of post-punk could actually pre-date punk itself. A1 Hallogallo A2 Sonderangebot A3 Weissensee B1 Im Glück B2 Negativland B3 Lieber Honig

Black Magic In Two Channels

Image
Santana - Abraxas [SOPN-129 JPN QUAD SQ 1975 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] Originally released on CBS/Columbia Records in 1970. I found this 1975 quadrophonic pressing of Santana's classic  Abraxas album at one of my usual Japanese pressing sources for a reasonably low price so thought I would experiment to see how a rip would sound in two channels with my current set-up. Personally, I find the idea of quadrophonic vinyl a bit gimmicky, I don't and never will own the necessary decoder equipment but am very intrigued with the results of this rip. Firstly it is almost impossible to compare this version to any previous release, the differences are too numerous to detail here but to summarise expect nothing in the same place if you know the original or any of the better quality remasters, this is essentially a different mix. I compared this rip to Dr. Robert's rip of the Mofi One Step, a recent rip of Kevin Gray's 50th Anniversary cut and my own UK 1970 pressing and then ran ou...

Chips For Free

Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms [MFSL 2-441 USA 2019 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] Originally released on Vertigo Records in 1985 and one of the best selling compact discs of all time. One of the biggest selling mainstream adult-orientated rock albums is also regarded as one of the best sounding Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab releases of recent years. Cut by Krieg Wunderlich from the digital clone of a Sony 1630 U-Matic digital master tape and mastered on an analogue desk to lathe, this release is cut louder at 45rpm than many other MoFi releases around the same period. In fact, it was cut in such a way that many pressings had to be swapped out due to stylus tracking issues on lower end turntables. The singles and their accompanying videos were perfect for the eighties MTV-era, pushing album sales through the roof across the globe. This was the England of new money where city barrow boys and sales reps lapped up Brothers In Arms . I do doubt if these days some of the homophobic lyr...

Doobie Tuesday

Image
The Doobie Brothers - The Captain And Me [BS 2694 DEU 2007 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] Originally released on Warner Brothers Records in 1973. A few weeks back I stoked some interest by posting my rip of the Speakers Corner AAA pressing of the Minute By Minute album. Whilst I don't hold much interest in the non-Michael McDonald era Doobies, a generous blog follower donated with the specific instruction to acquire the Speakers Corner AAA pressing of The Captain And Me . So here you are, this release was cut all analogue by Kevin Gray and pressed at Pallas in Germany. What is interesting is that this album was very recently reissued as part the Rhino High Fidelity series, also cut by Kevin Gray. I wonder how this new cut holds up against Gray's 2007 mastering? I have a bit of spare time on my hands today and plan to have three classic rock albums up by the end of the day. Those who prefer more alternative sounds should check back tomorrow. A1 Natural Thing A2 Long Train Runnin...

Country Death Songs

Image
Violent Femmes - Hallowed Ground [SLAP 1 UK 1984 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] The second album from Milwaukee's finest Violent Femmes probes away at the dark side of Americana using irony, blues, gospel, country, skiffle and good ol' rock'n'roll in their uniquely semi-acoustic way. For me personally this was their best work, moving beyond the punkier debut however that Violent Femmes stripped back sound remains the same, but with guest musicians including John Zorn adding brass, harmonicas and clarinets...... really it is all about that thick plucky Brian Ritchie bass. This is an album which deliberately sets out to challenge with difficult subject matters from child murder through to voodoo whilst also poking fun at Christianity - this record is a close examination of American roots - whilst hopefully not enough to cause controversy (except in some quarters), it is certainly designed to make you sit up and take note. A1 Country Death Song A2 I Hear The Rain A3 Never ...

Look On The Bright Side

Image
Peter Gabriel - I/O [PGLP 21 UK&EU 2023 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] With almost twenty-three years in the making, the world has been waiting for I/O for quite a while. Originally conceived as parts for Gabriel's last original studio album Up in 2002, the project was developed and then shelved numerous times, with around 150 song ideas worked upon to eventually result in this final double album release in two mixes - I went for the Bright-Side mixes by Mark Stent. What is most noticeable is how the 73-year old Gabriel's voice has held up over the years, and this album highlights the full range of the man's vocal ability. If you've been following his You Tube channel over the past year or so, you will also be quite familiar with many of these tracks as PG has talked song by song (often at length) about their development. These are all splendidly arranged songs with uplifting big choruses  covering all aspects of Gabriel's views on the world, life, the environment an...

Recorded on 25th June 1961, live at The Village Vanguard in New York City and widely appreciated as one of the best ever live jazz recordings. Bill Evans on piano, Scott La Faro on double bass (who sadly died a week later in a car accident) and Paul Motian on drums. Cut by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes and pressed by RTI. A Day To Remember

Image
John Lennon - Imagine [EAS-80705 JPN 1977 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] Originally released on Apple Records in 1971. To follow on from this week's Sgt Pepper posting, and from the same Japanese reissue series, here is the 1977 reissue for the far east market, assuming cut from the master tape at Abbey Road Studios in London. Today's date is a poignant one, although I know the official records will always state John Lennon was murdered on December 8th 1980 New York time, it was the early morning here in the UK of the 9th December. It is an important date for me personally and I can still recall exactly what the 14 year old me was doing when I heard the sad news.   Shelleyan Orphan - Helleborine [VIL-28079 JPN 1987 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] Something a little more gentile for a cold & grey winter's Friday. My musical world was saddened with Caroline Crawley's passing in October 2016, although she gained more praise for her vocal contributions to This Mortal Coil, for many including myself it was her recordings with Jemaur Tayle and their very unique Shelleyan Orphan which enriched our lives just a little bit more.  If there was ever a band more suited to 4AD, instead they found a home with Rough Trade. Here is my rip of the Japanese pressing of their debut album. Shelleyan Orphan were much more organic sounding than the Cocteau Twins. With violins & harps, cellos and bassoons, flutes & harpsichords, cor anglais & double bass their more baroque approach to ethereal dream-pop relied more on disambiguation, craft & acoustics than distortion, lyrical mystery and the esoteric. A1 Midsummer Pearls And Plumes A2 Epitaph I...

The Darker Side Of The Mind

Image
Death In June - Nada-Ized! [BAD VC 66 UK 2023 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] Except for the DISCriminate compilation CD in 2000, I haven't bought anything by Death In June since their 1986 album  The Wörld Thät Sümmer . I know Douglas P still has a following across the globe, and much like the new Clock DVA, a disproportionate number in Italy, so I won't labour on about my disinterest in his work since the mid-eighties, however this album did interest me enough to part with some cash for the 'small batch' vinyl pressing of 333. Douglas P, now in his late seventh decade, still ploughs on live with abstract post-apocalyptic imagery accompanying mostly acoustic neo-folk with dark subject matters. Recent collaborations have been with electronic musician Miro Snejdr from Lounge Corps -  Nada-Ized! is a product of their mutual appreciation. It has very little to do with the classic Nada! album, however you will encounter new electronic interpretations of early Death In June....

A Different Kind Of Tea Pot

Various Artists - A Different Kind Of Tension [PRLP 1 UK 1986 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] From the C86 world, and released around the same time as, or maybe just before, the iconic NME cassette tape comes the much more audio-dynamic A Different Kind Of Tension compilation - released on the one-off  Pressure Of The Real World Records. Many of these bands went onto bigger things as the decade developed, some with a substantial change in direction, however this compilation reminds us that The Mighty Lemon Drops once sounded a lot like The Doors and The Soup Dragons were once the bastard sons of The Buzzcocks. This album also shames us all for ignoring Blackpool's Vee VV back then, plus it reminds us just how good the original line-up of The Beloved were, and then of course there is also the mighty Stump!  We should all know the June Brides & Wedding Present tracks as these were both among their very best singles. Re-Enjoy! A1 The Mighty Lemon Drops - Like An Angel A2 T...

Scritti Politti - Cupid & Psyche 85 [V 2350 UK 1985 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] After leaving the independent sanctuary of his Rough Trade squat following the excellent and almost faultless  Songs To Remember album in 1982, Green Gartside headed to New York in search of his pop chops. There he teamed up with musicians David Gamson & Fred Maher for his long awaited second album. Cupid & Psyche 85 abandons the low fidelity innocence of Songs To Remember in favour of polished mid-eighties pop sounds performed with a whole bunch of American session musicians - including one guest appearance by the great Marcus Miller, helped along by the production skills of Arif Mardin. Apart from maybe just a few tracks, namely the singles Wood Beez (Pray Like Aretha Franklin) , Perfect Way & The Word Girl , it was time for the original Scritti Politti fans to move along and be replaced by the new slickly dressed & highly polished pop music buyers who lapped up Green's ...

With A Little Help From My Ears

Image
The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band [EAS-80558 JPN 1976 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] Originally released on Parlophone Records in 1967. The world of Beatles' pressing variations and their differences is shrouded in mostly murky preferences, usually from those with too much time on their hands with strong opinions & diminishing ear drums. There are plenty of websites out there for those who need comparisons, but what is fascinating is the widely mixed opinions on the Japanese 'Flag' series of reissues from 1976. These were all cut by Abbey Road engineers in London and then the metal work sent to Toshiba EMI in Tokyo for pressing. Complete with flag styled obi wrapped around a thick card gatefold with inserts and cut-out characters, these releases have found their way over to the west courtesy of Beatles collectors and Japanese import specialists.  Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is likely the most revered Beatles album and a while back I was lu...

Dead Can Dance - Dead Can Dance [CAD 404 UK 1984 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] I really wanted to revisit this album, as never happy with my April 2019 rip I was keen to hear if various upgrades since could help what sounds like an album recorded in a padded cell. This is Dead Can Dance coming out of their post-punk roots and discovering a much wider world of musical influences. Here's what I wrote back in 2019.... The story of early Dead Can Dance is an interesting one.... Anglo-Irish Eastender Brendan Perry emigrated from London to New Zealand with his parents in the mid-seventies before he settled in Melbourne, Australia. There he got into music, playing bass with local punks The Scavengers who went on to have a minor Aussie hit as The Marching Girls. Perry left The Marching Girls to form dark post-punk outfit Dead Can Dance in 1981 before he saw Lisa Gerrard perform live with her messy new wave band Microfilm. The two became a couple and she was invited to join before Dead Can Dance ...

When The Dust Settles

Image
This Mortal Coil - Sixteen Days/Gathering Dust/Song To The Siren [BAD 310 UK 1983 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] Here's a record which should need no introduction to anybody around here.... My history of the extended Modern English cover version adorning the a-side is somewhat vague. From what I can recall Modern English were asked to cover themselves for the single, they refused so Elizabeth Fraser and Gordon Sharp (from Cindytalk) took on vocals assisted musically by Martin Young (Colourbox), Robin Guthrie with Michael Conroy and Gary McDowell from Modern English. And so spawned one of the very finest alternative music collaboration projects of all time, all overseen by 4AD label head Ivo. The b-side (always a ripping challenge) should need no introduction as one of the finest cover versions ever recorded which was the seven-inch a-side ...and the rest was history.   Herbie Nichols Trio - Herbie Nichols Trio [BLP 1519 USA 2023 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] Originally released on Blue Note Records in 1956. Now lauded as one of the most innovative jazz pianists of his time, Herbie Nichols was widely overlooked back in the fifties, consequently original pressings of this album are very rarely found on the open market. Blue Note have now revived this album from the original master tapes as part of their Tone Poet Series, cut by Kevin Gray at Cohearant Audio. Recorded at the Van Gelder Studio in August 1955 with drummer Max Roach and bassist Al McKibbon and completed in April 1956 with Teddy Kotick replacing McKibbon on bass, the debut album by the Herbie Nicholls Trio was mostly self-compositions, including  The Lady Sings The Blues which the pianist wrote for Billy Holiday.   Vecchio - Afro-Rock [BEWITH151LP UK 2023 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] Originally released on on British library label Music De Wolfe in 1971. You have to hand it to these modern day record labels who dig through the archives from days long gone to seek out completely lost gems. Having already worked on the back catelogue reissues from KPM and Tele Music, Manchester boutique label Be With Records now turn their attention to Music De Wolfe. I don't believe that the 'library' tag is appropriate to the debut album by Argentinian musician Luis Vecchio. Most library releases were never intentionally made commercially available, usually just to TV and film producers etc. I don't know how many copies of Afro-Rock were pressed back in 1971, but demand completely outstrips availability on Discogs were copies sell for over 300 quid. This album is full on funk-jazz-rock fusion with no filler, it could have comfortably stood up on its own in the commercial market and made a name for V...
