King Of The Slums - Dandelions [CHIME 01.04D UK 1989 24-Bit FLAC] From a time when the rest of the city was going baggy, King Of The Slums ploughed the fairly lonely fallow of angry indie-rock and consequently went unnoticed outside their home city of Manchester. From their earliest releases on the much loved hometown label, Play Hard and the excellent Debris fanzine, they did build up a reasonable local following and a little bit of Peel interest. Semi-major Midnight Music picked them up and released Dandelions , their debut album. Given what was going on elsewhere, King Of The Slums were highly original and by incorporating that least fashionable of instruments, the violin into their work, they really stood out, if you cared to listen!
