It is very likely the  Licensed To Ill / Def Jam generation had grown out of the Beastie Boys by the time this album originally hit the streets in 1992. First pressings of Check Your Head are now about as rare as rocking-horse poop, thankfully those busy folks at Vinyl Me Please managed to coax the original master-tapes out of the Capitol Records vault and send then to Ryan K. Smith at Sterling Sound for this thirtieth anniversary red vinyl reissue. Our trio of beastie heroes play all the instruments on this album (you know...drums, bass & guitar) for this entertaining double platter of hip-hop rock jazz crossover - long time collaborator Money Mark supplied the keyboards and co-wrote a couple of tracks.   Beastie Boys - Hold It Now, Hit It [44-05369 USA 1986 24-Bit FLAC] A change of direction and another new rip of an old hip-hop classic. Rick Rubin's Def Jam Records was briefly a punk label until he hooked up with Russell Simmons to release some of the most important hip-hop records of the mid-eighties. Like every other of my generation, we lapped this stuff up ...and eventually discovered what thunderbird wine was. Beastie Boys pushed every boundary imaginable with their Licensed To Ill album from which this single was taken.
