The Jazz Butcher Conspiracy - Angels [GLASS 12049 UK 1986 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] Very possibly the fifth coolest 'shades' wearer in rock & roll (I'll leave you to surmise the top four), my musical world misses Pat Fish aka The Jazz Butcher. Glass Records period Jazz Butcher was, for me at least, their most entertaining period. Pat injected his own sublime wit into Jazz Butcher songs but Angels is one of his rare love songs... It's two a.m. and I'm feeling fine, Staying up late with these men of mine. I've seen the angels and the things they do and every one Just makes me think of you. ...I can see them. Here they come now. There's thousands of them. They're bearing you up. They're holding you up. I want to hold you in my arms. If you need some riff-rocking Jazz Butcher, look no further than the fabulous  Rebecca Wants Her Bike Back which adorns the flip. In summary, Northampton's finest conjure up some random delightful sentimental wit for...

A Scandal In Bohemia

The Jazz Butcher - A Scandal In Bohemia [GLALP 009 UK 1984 24-Bit FLAC] A new rip for 2019 of this excellent album from an original Glass Records pressing. If you have never heard and learnt to enjoy the sheer pop pleasure that is Southern Mark Smith , then you need a copy of this album, or if you really want to part with some cash - buy the original single. The album version shines out as pure unadulterated pop, whereas the single is far edgier. Secondly, The Jazz Butcher is not a jazz band (nor is he a butcher) - they are far from it - just think Robyn Hitchcock without the acid. Pure guitar pop with witty lyrical observations. Soul Happy Hou r is a tribute to heavy drinking like no other, Caroline Wheeler's Birthday Present is The Birthday Party (Nick Cave's version) with a huge sense of humour. I Need Meat is hilariously anti-vegetarian and Real Men pokes fun at the very British interpretation of manliness. Ten songs to make you smile, enjoy! Do you k...

The Popular Sound Of Northampton

The Jazz Butcher - Southern Mark Smith [GLASS 027 UK 1983 24-Bit FLAC] Another of my old singles which needed re-ripping, the fourth in what may become a never ending series.  Southern Mark Smith was the debut single by Pat Fish and Max Eider, collectively known as The Jazz Butcher. On this single they are augmented by Kevin Haskins from Bauhaus and Rollo from The Woodentops. Kevin's brother David J Haskins was eventually to become a more permanent fixture in the band around the time of The Jazz Butcher masterpiece A Scandal In Bohemia (perhaps that needs a re-rip as well?). You may know the track in its revisited form on A Scandal in Bohemia , however here it is in it's original unadulterated form, quite unique and verging on genius, backed with the manic psychobilly of  Jazz Butcher Meets Count Dracula . .... don't you know they only make pop records out of plastic?
