True Blue On Red Wax

B·F·G - Blue [DPRLP23 USA 2013 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] Originally released on Attica Records in 1989. Those who have stuck with my rips for the last decade or so will be familiar with Mancunian post-punk goth band B·F·G, especially their excellent debut album Phantoms from 1988. Formed by the drummer from former Factory Records band, Lavolta Lakota and despite some very excellent releases, B·F·G got lost in the musical world due to the baggy haze of Madchester, despite their heavy post-punk goth being the perfect antidote to the druggy mess the city was fast becoming. This rip could well be your perfect antidote to my last post. Blue is their second album, with a slightly more electronic feel this record fits into the neutral territory between Joy Division and Sisters Of Mercy, filled with distortion and deep throbbing basslines. Reissued by the late lamented Drastic Plastic Records label, it is a powerful listen and this pressing brings more dynamics to your listen, aided ...

B·F·G ‎- The Higher E.P. [ATT 003 UK 1987 24-Bit FLAC] Likely the best single by Manchester's B·F·G in 24-bit FLAC also appeared on the Fathoms album, however here it is as part of the original four track EP. If you overlook the slightly muddy production, it is a great track for pounding away at any eighties goth disco in much the same vein as The Sisters Of Mercy, Rose Of Avalanche and The Mission did back then. Firefly on the b-side may well owe much more to Joy Division than any of those Yorkshire bands. A1 Higher Than Heaven A2 No Two Things B1 Firefly B2 Back To Front

B·F·G - Fathoms [ATT 004 UK 1988 24-Bit FLAC] A new rip for 2019 and it sounds great, if you grabbed my old ESWA rip of this long forgotten album, you need to replace it now! B.F.G. were formed by former Lavolta Lokata drummer Mike Simkins. Whilst clearly classified as 80's goth music, B.F.G. did not aspire to the goth image. On hearing the early demos, Joy Division and New Order bassist Peter Hook invited the band to support New Order duringn their Summer 1986 Tour. This tour coincided with BFG's first release Paris b/w Amelia with a sound much akin to that of Joy Division and early Sisters of Mercy. Simkins was joined by B.J. Williams on vocals, Keith Lambert on Bass, and Acky on Guitar. At this time B.F.G. also worked with Andy Clegg of the Chameleons. The band quickly began to make a name for themselves, basing their sound around a thumping bass line and screaming guitars and those deep Eldrich/Curtis-like vocals. Amelia very much sounding like Alice doe...
