Normil Hawaiians - Gala Failed [RED 8 UK 1981 24-Bit FLAC] There is no easy definition to the Normil Hawaiian sound. There are elements of kraut-rock, psyche-rock, post-punk and prog, think of a blend of Pere Ubu, Wire, Can, P.I.L.& early Floyd, and you'd be heading in the right direction. This is arty rock without the posturing, this is post-punk with crusty edges. If you've been following my rips over the years, you will know that I have covered this lot extensively, so here for you now is a new rip of their 1981 Gala Failed EP for Red Rhino Records. Far From The Normal

Normil Hawiians - What's Going On? [UTR 121 UK 2019 24-Bit FLAC] You may have read me lamenting the failurings of modern vinyl pressings on other threads, you may have also read my post of More Wealth Than Money where I congratulated Chris Tipson's tiny London label Upset! The Rhythm on their quality remastered re-pressing of the first album by crusty post-punksters Normil Hawiians. The follow-up reissue of What's Going On? is just as fine with very little vinyl noise on good quality vinyl and well packaged with posters and other general paraphernalia. The original Illuminated pressings were not great, these fix all that! The difficult second album was made more awkward on the listener as Guy Smith moved into a more psychedelic, free-form improvised sound. Martin still has the post-punk leanings of earlier singles but everything else is very different, at times challenging as the music meanders off into a cloudy confused haze. I dunno what was being smoked. S...

Who Needs The Money?

Normil Hawaiians - More Wealth Than Money [UTR 096V UK 2017 24-Bit FLAC] Originally released on Illuminated Records (JAMS 23) in 1982, here is an album which should be quite familiar to followers of my previous blog. Head Hawaiian Guy Smith popped up said hello on ESWA and paid tribute to guitarist Jim Lusted who had sadly passed away, at the time he promised a resissue, so I guess, Here it is! I made contact with a former employee of Illuminated Records who suggested that most copies ended up as landfill back in the eighties which is a real shame. Now anybody who is familiar with the label will know struggled with pressing qualities as financial burdens resulted in the use of inferior vinyl. Young British label Upset! The Rhythm have come up with the goods on this luscious double vinyl repress in a replica gatefold sleeve, although the grey original has been replaced with a bleached white cover. If you have a spare £60 - £130 you can pick up a copy of the orig...

The Beat Went On...

Normil Hawaiians - The Beat Goes On [TUX 13 UK 1980 24-Bit FLAC] I am resisting the temptation to re-rip a load of older rips using my new set-up - I just don't have the time! Anyway, I just couldn't resist a new high resolution rip of this post-punk classic from crusty punks Normil Hawaiians from my crackly old seven inch.   The Beat Goes On was released on the excellent Dining Out label which was essentially a fore runner to Illuminated Records, a singalong cover of Heaven from Eraserhead snuck its way unannounced on to b-side to avoid any royalties.
