Duke Pearson - The Phantom [BST 84293 USA 2020 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] Originally released on Blue Note Records in 1968. The twelfth album by American pianist Columbus Calvin 'Duke' Pearson, Jr developed the hard-bop style further with soul-jazz and latin blends into ambitious new territory. Built around the cool groove of the title track, Pearson allows his fellow band members to take the lead, especially Jerry Dodgion's flute and those vibes from Bobby Hutcherson, whilst his piano sits back in the melody holding everything together with the rhythm section. If you've had enough of Christmas music for this year, and if you appreciate fine jazz, then perhaps this album will be perfect for you. Recorded in June and September 1968 at the Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey.
