Moonpie - Moonpie [PLP-6799 JPN 2021 24-Bit FLAC] Japanese reissue label P-Vine Records has been digging deep into the archives for its Groove-Diggers series and pulled out a real obscurity which is highly worthy of a rip. The only album by Alabama funk seven-piece Moonpie was originally released on the Lanark Records label in 1977 and original copies are as rare as rocking' horse poop. Expect eight funk/soul standard workouts, mostly cover versions of stuff by Tower Of Power, Stevie Wonder, Brothers Johnson, Creative Source, The Commodores and a couple of the band's own compositions, plus a bizarre out-of-place cover of Steely Dan's My Old School . I noticed a few sections of secondary crackle during my preparation of this rip, which likely suggests that some of the original master tapes may be lost forever.
