A Kind Of Blue

Verve - Blue [HUTT 29 UK 1993 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] Here is the final twelve inch to complete my Verve high resolution re-rip project. For dessert, it's the three minute catchy and powerful Blue , which seems remarkably short when compared to the other singles. For for examples of the band's lush, gentle and atmospheric work, check out the two splendid tracks on the flipside. ....pop stardom beckoned a few years later with a bit of help from the Stones when Verve became The Verve a few years later and "accidentally" went mainstream.  A1 Blue B1 Twilight B2 Where The Geese Go

Eight Minutes & Twenty-Eight

Verve - Gravity Grave [HUTT 21 UK 1992 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] Following closely behind She's A Superstar , Gravity Grave was the second single by Wigan's Verve. The track is an eight minute assault on the aural senses, driven by what could be the simplest of Roger Waters bass lines from early seventies Pink Floyd, the track builds and builds to a crescendo of melodic noise, the subtle bass & drum break, around the four & a half minute mark, gives you enough time to come up for air until the hypnotic noise immerses you once more.  This track needs the space and depth as afforded by a hi-fi system, so for the full effect, put the headphones away and play loudly. Wigan Peers

Verve - She's A Superstar [HUTT 16 UK 1992 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] A hop across the Pennines from Yorkshire to the red rose county of Lancashire, and to Wigan, famous for its northern soul, and also the home of Verve. Once a psychedelic indie-rock band who accidentally went mainstream with thanks to a Rolling Stones sample in 1997, Verve were forced into a subtle name change to keep the corporate lawyers at bay. They achieved moderate commercial success on Virgin Records, before front man Richard Ashcroft parked his attitude and became a housewife's favourite on daytime radio playlists.  The first four Verve indie singles are stunningly created wall of sound productions and courtesy of penguinflight , we have three of them on original vinyl. Here is their second, and my personal favourite, She's A Superstar backed with the even better Feel . A1 She's A Superstar B1 Feel

Verve - She's A Superstar [HUTT 16 UK 1992 24-Bit FLAC] Today kicks off with a short run of classic early Verve from penguinflight 's boxes,  for starters here is the fabulous She's A Superstar backed with the mind-blowing eleven minute epic Feel .  A1 She's A Superstar B1 Feel Verve - Gravity Grave [HUTT 21 UK UK 1992 24-Bit FLAC] Your main course is Gravity Grave , again ripped from penguinflight' s pristine vinyl to 24-bits of high resolution flac. There seems something quite Floyd'ish about the bassline on this one. A1 Gravity Grave B1 Endless Life B2 A Man Called Sun (Live) Verve - Blue [HUTT 29 UK 1993 24-Bit FLAC] For dessert, it's the three minute catchy and powerful Blue , which seems remarkably short when compared to the other singles ....pop stardom beckoned a few years later with a bit of help from the Stones when Verve became The Verve a few years later and "accidentally" went mainstream.  ...
