Duf Jazz II

Dif Juz - Extractions [CAD 505 UK 1985 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] A final one from me for about four weeks.... Whilst not strictly jazz, the Dif Juz interpretation of 'duff jazz' should appeal widely as it crosses over between jazz, instrumental rock, plus ambient and ethereal indie-pop. Please consider this a significant upgrade to any of my previous rips. The concept of melodic instrumental rock crossover music is not new, and kids these days have grown up on a diet of Mogwai, Explosions In The Sky and a plethora of other so-named post-rock bands. Whereas the modern genre grew from a blend of modern progressive rock and late eighties 'wall-of-sound' shoegaze, Dif Juz were from a different era - a time where the mainstream and the alternative where millions of miles apart and blending simple shimmering melodic interludes performed on just bass, guitar & drums with occasional abstract jazz reflections from a lone saxophone wasn't quite so hip. Mogwai original viny...

Who, What, Why, When?

Dif Juz - Who Says So? [RFM 24 UK 1983 24-Bit 176.4/88.2 kHz FLAC] All my Dif Juz links were deleted a while back, however the band's albums have been among the most requested reposts since I began this site. As I hinted to one follower, re-rips were on the way, so here is the first in a choice of higher end resolutions, just because that seems to be the way we like things around here. Between releases as part of the 4AD roster, Dif Juz released Who Says So? on the Red Flame label in 1983. I never acquired a copy back then, consequently it was on my 'wants list' for many a year. I was delighted to pick up this mint copy with the assistance of your blog donations. Unwisely overlooked since release, this album is another mostly instrumental journey through the jazz-punk-dub experimental creativity of this remarkable band who retired from music in 1986. PiL fans may especially enjoy the dubby delights of a Wobble inspired The Dub Song . Surprisingly Who Says So? has never...

Out Of The Trees

Dif Juz - Out Of The Trees [MAD 612 UK 1986 24-Bit FLAC] Time for a few things a little more gentler on the ear ....by the time 4AD released Out Of The Trees , Dif Juz had ceased to record and release. This album combines their first two EP singles, Huremics and Vibrating Air , although most of the latter was re-recorded and remixed for this record. Save for a tiny bit of crackle in just a couple of quieter moments, this rip has worked out rather well. Everybody needs Soarn in their lives. Enjoy. I never acquired a copy back then, consequently it was been on my 'wants list' for quite some time. I was delighted to pick up this mint copy recently with the assistance of some blog donations. Unwisely overlooked since release, this album is another mostly instrumental journey through the jazz-punk experimental creativity of this remarkable band who retired from music in 1986. Surprisingly Who Says So? has never seen a reissue and good copies are difficult to find. This platter was a joy to rip using my new set-up as the Cambridge CXA-81 (What Hi-Fi? 2019 award winner) handles the frequency ranges output from the turntable and pre-amp in crystal clarity without distortion and treats all the lows, highs and mids with full respect. If you listen closely, you can hear studio chatter between some tracks. It is a...

Mogwai original vinyls fetch hundreds of pounds/dollars/euros on reseller markets, perhaps kids today should invest their higher expendable spondulicks more wisely on Dif Juz records at twenty to thirty quid a pop. I ripped my CD of this LP a few years back on ESWA, here is my 24-bit rip of an original 1985 4AD vinyl. Robin Guthrie produces, and does it rather well. Enjoy. A1  Crosswind...

Various - Natures Mortes : Still Lives [P-1149 JPN 1982 24-Bit FLAC] I posted my 1997 compact disc reissue of Natures Mortes : Still Lives back on the old blog a few years ago prior to a huge run of 4AD posts. The original album is quite hard to come by as it was a Japanese market release by WEA. I picked up this copy at a recent record fair from a collector who was selling his collection, so it is with great pleasure that I can offer you my rip in 24-bits of high resolution flac. Enjoy!
