Psyche - Mystery Hotel [Ltd LP + 12" ROSE 145 FRA 1988 24-Bit FLAC] Canadians Darrin and Stephen Huss formed Psyche in Edmonton during 1982. Initially their music could be described as dark-synth, however by the middle of the decade they injected a little more synthpop and the third album, Mystery Hotel in their most accessible. More successful in Europe than their native Canada, the brothers moved to France and then Germany where they built a solid following. If there was a Mute Records sound then Psyche had it, though oddly never found their way onto the label. Mystery Hotel is ten solid and catchy uptempo slices of eighties synthpop drawing on British influences from Depeche Mode, New Order, Soft Cell and Erasure. My copy includes a bonus 12" EP of live recordings but as these were based around backing tapes, the studio work is a better representation of their music.
