Fate

Nyam Nyam - Fate/Hate [FBN 28 BEL 1984 24-Bit FLAC] Whilst Barnie & Dojo were working with their Italian friends, Peter Hook took his bass and New Order's Prophet 5 into Strawberry Studios with Hull post-punk band Nyam Nyam to work on a track Fate/Hate . The band had the basis of a contract with Aura Records however Hooky persuaded them to rip up that deal and release it with Factory. The band's obscurity and the decision to put the track out on Factory Benelux ensured minimal sales. Hooky's idea was to use much of his learnings from working with Arthur Baker, however in reality the outcome veered between Cowley/Moroder disco and goth with the track extended by an additional & unnecessary three minutes due to Hooky's studio fiddling. I still prefer the eventual album version (recorded without Hook) which appeared on their Situation Two album, Hope Of Heaven , however this single still deserves its place in the archives of worthy Factory obscurities. The Last Resting Place Of Nyam Nyam

Nyam Nyam - The Architect [SIT 37T UK 1985 24-Bit FLAC] Most of this five track 12" was recorded shortly after the Hope Of Heaven album and again released on Situation Two, plus in another lovely 23 Envelope sleeve. The EP takes a similar vein to the album and takes things a little further as the title track owes more to Tom Waits, Nick Cave and Leonard Cohen than the post-punk sound influences on Hope Of Heaven -  Nick Cave was to make a living bashing out this kind of stuff ten years later. The Last Place was a much earlier recording, cut at Cargo Studios in Rochdale in 1982. The Architect is a million miles away from the proto-electro-disco of the Peter Hook produced Factory Records release, but the two stand-out tracks The Last Place (Hope Of Heaven) and the rework of And To Hold make this a worthwhile listen. Nyam Nyam never recorded again, perhaps it was a good thing as it would be difficult to see what direction they could take from there on. If you ev...

Heaven, Over There

Nyam Nyam - Hope Of Heaven [SITU 10 UK 1984 24-Bit FLAC] I first ripped my copy of Hope Of Heaven back in 2011, then I made note that it had never been re-released as a CD ...it eventually was however now it seems that the compact disc format is dying a long slow death, so today here is a new 2019 24-bit rip of the only album by Nyam Nyam. Nyam Nyam's claim to fame was the Factory Benelux released 12" Fate/Hate produced by New Order bassist Peter Hook. Hooky claimed to have found a copy of the band's self-released first single lying around Strawberry Studios and loved it. Factory Records did not continue their interest and the band moved on to 4AD/Beggars Banquet off-shoot label Situation 2 and released Hope of Heaven later in 1984. The album, whilst not a classic deserves it's place in history, and has been very much over-looked. There are some very strong tracks including a un-Hooked recording of Fate and powerful & highly personal post-punk, art ro...
