Karen Marks - Cold Café [ES 012 AUS 2019 24-Bit FLAC] Originally released as a very rare seven-inch single in Australia in 1981. Staying with the Australian connection, from the cultural hub of Melbourne comes Karen Marks ably assisted by skilled multi-instrumentalist Ash Wednesday who released Cold Café as a single in 1981. The original vinyl copies were few and far between so now fetch reasonably high hundreds on reseller sites. Thankfully the Efficient Space label picked up the single along with a compilation track and a few cassette sourced demos for this 12" EP earlier in 2019. The title track has been championed by the Minimal Wave label over the years as a lost classic, hence pushing up the collector's price of the original. Cold Café is a sombre yet somehow catchy little synthpop ditty, carefully crafted by Wednesday with lyrics by Marks. Enjoy.
