C Cat Trance - Jinniya [INK 1235 UK 1988 24-Bit FLAC] If you've been following Needle Time since the beginning, you'll be aware that I have posted the vast majority of the vinyl releases by John Rees Lewis' exotic ethnic-funk band C Cat Trance. All the older posts still have live links, here is my last, the evocative Jinniya single. These are all re-workings from  vinyl used for my ESWA blog posts many moons ago. Enjoy! A1 Jinniyya B1 Sudaniyya (Minimal Mix)

No One Can Hear You Screaming

C Cat Trance - Screaming To Be With You [INK 1223 UK 1986 24-Bit FLAC] One for those who know the Medium Medium connection and may have missed this from a few years back on ESWA. Here is some more mysterious Middle Eastern funky delights from those groovy C Cats. A1 Screaming (To Be With You) (Volta Rouge Mix) B1 Let Me Sleep B2 Dangling On A String (Instrumental)

C Cat Trance ‎- Ishta Bil Habul! (Cream Galore!) [INK 1227 UK 1987 24-Bit FLAC] Another day, another C Cat Trance single, reworked and improved from my original ESWA files.  Ishta Bil Habul! is a brooding harissa-spiced disco monster from the C Cats. Answers on a postcard as to what it's all about please. ...and why do we need Cream Galore ? A1 Ishta Bil Habul! (Cream Galore!) (Dance Mix) B1 Ishta Bil Habul! (Cream Galore!) (Edit Mix)

C Cat Trance - She Steals Cars [INK 126 UK 1985 24-Bit FLAC] Continuing my occasional returns to the works of C Cat Trance, here is an improved version of my original ESWA rip from May 2016. A highly evocative sleeve wraps itself around the powerful second C Cat single with lots of Middle Eastern textures layered over a pounding percussive dance beat - this ain't Ofra Haza folks! A1 She Steals Cars B1 Rattling Ghosts

C Cat Trance - Dreams Of Leaving [INK 123 UK 1984 24-Bit FLAC] The debut single from C Cat Trance is brooding dark funk sprinkled with eastern pleasures, all wrapped in a sleeve which gives a huge clue to the direction John Rees Lewis was about to follow after his years with Medium Medium. This is a fresh 2019 rip, after I managed to clip the rip for my original blog post a few years back ...and nobody seemed to notice. A1 Dreams Of Leaving B1 Dangling On A String

Play ....She Ever Does

C Cat Trance - Play Maseko Combo [INK 33 UK 1987 -24-Bit FLAC] It is interesting to see that Austrian label Klanggalerie has reissued the first C Cat Trance album as a compact disc. Whilst the label should be applauded for it's sterling reissue work (especially the 'lost' Chakk demos), its pricing seems a little over the top given the state of the compact disc market. It's also disappointing that the label decided to master the reissue very loudly. I first ripped the C Cat Trance back catelogue with a lot of help from Dutch blog follower Rob back in 2016 and the final vinyl album is laden with top notch tribal funk, the track She Ever Does is a huge household favourite here at ESWA Towers.  Save for the filler Cold , this is a record which deserves to be played over and over again, as each time you will hear something new among the grooves. Nice record ....I may be tempted to revisit those singles soon. A1 Dalbouka A2 They Made Them Up A3 She Ever ...

Shake The Mind

C Cat Trance - Zouave [INK 20 UK 1986 24-Bit FLAC] A return to form after the difficult second album. Zouave finds the C Cats in funky mood again, save for a wholly unnecessary cover of You've Lost... The whole album has the feeling of early-mid period Shriekback which will no doubt please a few out there. Shake The Mind is truly amazing! A1  Wind Howl A2  Betty A3  He's Crazy A4  Taksim A5  Ishta Bil Habul B1  If You Steal B2  Take Me To The Beach B3  You've Lost That Loving Feeling B4  Shake The Mind

C Cat Trance - Khamu (She Sleep Walks) [INK 6 UK 1985 24-Bit FLAC] It is interesting to acknowledge the current interest in C Cat Trance from those who may not have been around when the band were active. Some albums are now being re-released on compact disc, so to continue where we left off and as a comparison to the modern remasters, here is their second long-player ripped from an original vinyl.  Khamu is much more art-rock than ethnic-funk, a bit as if David Sylvian had gotten off the plane in Istanbul rather than Tokyo, if you get my drift. It is not their best work, I think the debut and the third album do more to challenge and entertain, however this record details a significant shift in influence and culture. No more so than on the important single,  (Screaming) To Be With You. A1   Puritaines A2   Barefoot Doctor A3   The New Hassan A4   (Screaming) To Be With You B1   Rattling Ghosts B2  ...

C Cat Trance - C Cat Trance [RFM 19 UK 1983 24-Bit FLAC] On first listen to C Cat Trance's debut you'd think they came from Sheffield - they certainly have that Hula/Chakk/Slab! hard indie funk vibe which is always appreciated here. C Cat Trance (as daft a name as any) actually came from Nottingham and were fronted by former Medium Medium funkster John Rees Lewis. With a career spanning six singles and four albums, Rees was highly productive blending Middle Eastern/North African textures to his work with some credible success.  With huge thanks to Rob . For Leper Lord ! A1 Hypnotised A2 My Tattoo B1 Railway Magazine B2 Let Me Sleep B3 Untitled B4 Dangling On A String
