Everything Starts with An APB

APB - Shoot You Down [SLICK 7 UK 1981 24-Bit FLAC] I pulled these three out of the singles box last night, I couldn't resist a few re-rips. Wee Scottish laddies, APB, moved away from the jangly Scottish sounds of Josef K, Orange Juice and The Fire Engines and latched on to the bass driven indie funk groove. This incredibly catchy little number has a fantastic bassline, stabby punk riffs and superb funky drumming.  Shoot You Down was APB's second single, and I clearly remember rushing out to buy this after hearing Peel and Jensen both playing it to death. A1 Shoot You Down B1 Talk To Me APB - Palace Filled With Love [SLICK 8 UK 1982 24-Bit FLAC] These singles were among the first I ever ripped, seems like decades ago now, so I am pleased to finally upgrade them. The a-side is funky & punky, however it is the instrumental flipside which should grab your attention. A1 Palace Filled With Love B1 All Your Life With Me APB - One Day [SLICK 10 UK 1983 24-Bit FL...

From Aberdeen To New York

APB - Invective [APB 1 UK 1989 24-Bit FLAC] The final release was the cheerful funk singalong Funk Invective which only really sold in the US. If like me, you like a good slap bass then this could be up your street. For all those blog followers who asked me to try to find a copy, enjoy! A1 Funk Invective A2 Misunderstood B1 Funk Invective (Radio Version) B2 Three In The Morning APB - When I Feel This Way [LINK 016 USA 1988 24-Bit FLAC] The penultimate APB single was for the US market only on the Link Records label. Some of the charm from the original singles is lost, with the band sounding a bit Cameo in places on When I Feel This Way . The rock riffs on She's The Girl are a zillion miles from Shoot You Down . A1 When I Feel This Way (12" Version) A2 When I Feel This Way (Dub) B1 She's The Girl (Extended Mix) B2 She's The Girl (Radio Edit) B3 When I Feel This Way (Radio Edit)

Cure For The Blues

APB - Cure For The Blues [LINK 004 USA 1986 24-Bit FLAC] Staying in Scotland ....Aberdeen actually. It took me a while to realise I had the US pressing of the only proper album by APB. I bought this on release from a certain well known UK chain store and didn't notice that the two album sides had been reversed for the transatlantic version. This version also carries the UK catelogue number to compound my initial confusion. As APB had broken US college radio, the US label clearly decided to put the more rocky tracks on side one and move the funkier numbers to side two. They also omitted One Day (a UK single) and inserted another more current single Open Your Eyes .  If you've been following my postings since the earliest days of ESWA, you'll probably have all of my APB rips. They were a great band who were big faves on early evening and late night UK radio with a run of great punk-funk singles and sessions. They caught the attention of James Brown (yes, tha...
