Win - You've Got The Power [SWXX 8 UK 1986 24-Bit 176.4kHz FLAC] Despite having money thrown at them by London Records, Alan Horne's Swamplands Records couldn't buy a hit. Win's You've Got The Power was the label's biggest chance and despite being chosen as the backing track for the McKewans Lager  TV advert campaign in Scotland and a multitude of formats, it flopped. The track remains a superbly catchy pop track, presented on this twelve inch as the 'US Remix', even though the single was never released in the USA. On the flipside, you also get Win's re-interpretation of David Lynch's  In Heaven (Lady In The Radiator Song) from Eraserhead , and the rarer seven-inch mix of  Unamerican Broadcasting , which had previously only ever appeared as promo item.  A1 You've Got The Power (U.S Dance Mix) B1 In Heaven (Lady In The Radiator Song) B2 Unamerican Broadcasting (7" Edit)

Freaky Gravy

Win - Freaky Trigger [V 2571 UK 1989 24-Bit FLAC] If you are feeling a bit down in the doldrums after that last Cure post, here is some full on poptastic energy to revitalise you. After Alan Horne had squandered lots of London Records money on his aborted Swamplands label, Davie Henderson's Win found themselves without a label. Along came Virgin Records, another pot of cash and Zeus B. Held waiting in the studio. Freaky Trigger was the consequence of all this. It's a full on pop album; busy and muddled at times as the German producer piles on the layers of pop-power intricacy; Henderson's psychedelic ideas are sometimes lost in the mix; gone are all those wonderful harmonies which blessed  Uh! Tears Baby (A Trash Icon) . However, there are still enough good ideas to make this album a worthy listen - as I may have suggested before, where was Trevor Horn when they needed him. Make UnAmerica Great Again!

Win - Unamerican Broadcasting [SWX 5 UK 1985 24-Bit FLAC] Another new rip, it sounds magnificent when compared to my previous attempts on ESWA. The debut single from Win was only released as a 12 inch on Alan Horne's post-Postcard label, Swamplands. The label was funded by London Records, however Horne had full control up until the major label pulled the plug. The track was re-recorded for the debut London album ... Uh! Tears Baby . The album is a fine piece of 80's pop but the re-recording lacked the power and guile of this version. Also of note was the unusual peel-off sticker sleeve featuring the stars and stripes. Also check out the great use of a speak'n'spell which was missing on the commercial album release. A1 Unamerican Broadcasting B1 Unamerican Broadcasting

Trash Pop Icons

Win - ...Uh! Tears Baby (A Trash Icon) [LONLP 31 UK 1987 24-Bit FLAC] I was never happy with my 2012 rip of ... .Uh! Tears Baby (A Trash Icon) , so to round off my current short run of three classic eighties pop album re-rips, here is a new 2020 rip of this great album. You may recall what I wrote back in 2012 over on ESWA... I have never understood how both London Records then Virgin failed to get mainstream recognition and success out of Win. Davey Henderson is a genius at writing catchy pop tunes and despite the efforts of two major labels (and a well known Scottish lager TV advert), consistently failed to get a much deserved hit.  Their debut album is a truly superb collection of eleven sing-a-long candyfloss pop tunes. Win take indie-synthpop music to it's catchiest limits and blend in vocal harmonies, to produce one of the most important albums of the decade. But there were flaws.... London flogged it to death with multiple singles in multiple formats all o...
